Legal Options After Sauna Blanket Burn Injuries and Fire-Related Incidents

Sauna blankets have grown in popularity among consumers seeking wellness, relaxation, and at-home heat therapy. These products are designed to generate elevated temperatures while users remain enclosed inside a heated blanket system. Consumers generally expect sauna blankets to operate safely and maintain controlled temperatures without creating risks of burns, overheating, or fires. If you were burned by a sauna blanket, our product liability lawyers have filed lawsuits for burns caused by a sauna blanket and may be able to help. Call us at 800-337-7755.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Tzumi Electronics recalled certain SLF Sauna Blankets due to fire and burn hazards.

If you or a loved one suffered burns or other injuries involving a sauna blanket or heated wellness product, you may have legal options under product liability law.

At the Law Offices of Jason Turchin, we can represent individuals nationwide who were injured by defective products and dangerous consumer goods.

According to the recall announcement, certain SLF Sauna Blankets may pose risks of:

Fire hazards

Burn injuries

Overheating incidents

Thermal injuries

Products that generate significant heat over extended periods may create serious safety concerns if temperature regulation systems fail.

The recall follows growing scrutiny of heated wellness devices and consumer products that allegedly overheat during use.

Why Sauna Blankets Can Be Dangerous

Sauna blankets are designed to expose users to elevated temperatures while the body remains enclosed within the product.

Potential hazards may include:

Excessive heat generation

Electrical malfunctions

Fire hazards

Overheating components

Burn injuries

Because users may remain inside the blanket for extended periods, injuries may worsen before the problem is discovered.

Common Injuries Associated With Sauna Blankets

Consumers injured by defective sauna blankets may suffer:

First-Degree Burns

Surface burns causing redness, irritation, and discomfort.

Second-Degree Burns

Burns involving blistering, swelling, and significant skin damage.

Third-Degree Burns

Severe burns that may require hospitalization, surgery, or skin graft procedures.

Additional Injuries

Victims may also experience:

Heat-related illnesses

Dehydration

Nerve injuries

Permanent scarring

Emotional trauma

Some incidents may therefore require extensive medical treatment and, in addition, rehabilitation to address the resulting injuries.

How Sauna Blanket Failures May Occur

Examples of alleged sauna blanket defects may include:

Temperature Control Failures

Internal controls may allow temperatures to exceed intended limits.

Electrical Defects

Wiring or electronic components may malfunction and overheat.

Heating Element Problems

Heating components may generate dangerous levels of heat.

Fire Hazards

Electrical failures may create ignition risks.

Even consumers who follow instructions carefully may still face risks if the product contains a defect.

Product Liability Claims Involving Sauna Blankets

Consumers injured by defective sauna blankets may therefore have legal claims under product liability law, depending on the specific facts and circumstances of the case.

Potential claims may include:

Design Defect

Allegations that the sauna blanket was defectively designed.

Manufacturing Defect

Claims that production errors created dangerous conditions.

Failure to Warn

Allegations that consumers were not adequately warned about potential burn or fire risks.

Negligence

Claims that the manufacturer failed to properly test or monitor product safety.

Each case therefore depends on the specific facts, available evidence, and circumstances involved.

Fire Hazards and Heated Consumer Products

Sauna blankets are part of a broader category of heated consumer products that have faced recalls and safety concerns and, as a result, have drawn increased attention to potential safety risks.

Examples may include:

Heated blankets

Heating pads

Heated gloves

Heated socks

Heated apparel

Heated wellness devices

Manufacturers generally have a responsibility to design products that safely manage heat and electrical power.

Who May Be Responsible?

Depending on the circumstances, potentially responsible parties may include:

Tzumi Electronics

Component manufacturers

Electrical system manufacturers

Distributors

Retailers

Determining liability therefore often requires a detailed investigation into the product and, in addition, the alleged defect that may have contributed to the incident.

Compensation Available in Sauna Blanket Injury Cases

Individuals injured by a defective sauna blanket may be entitled to compensation for:

Medical expenses

Burn treatment

Hospital bills

Lost wages

Pain and suffering

Permanent scarring

Future medical care

The amount of compensation therefore depends on the severity of the injuries and, in addition, their long-term effects on the victim’s life.

Electric water kettles are commonly used in homes and offices to quickly heat water for coffee, tea, cooking, and other daily uses. Consumers generally expect these appliances to safely contain boiling water and operate without leaking, spilling, or malfunctioning.

However, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that ZWILLING J.A. Henckels Aktiengesellschaft recalled certain electric water kettles due to a burn hazard that may create a risk of serious injury.

If you or a loved one suffered burns or scalding injuries involving an electric kettle, you may have legal options under product liability law.

At the Law Offices of Jason Turchin, we represent individuals nationwide who were injured by defective kitchen appliances and dangerous consumer products.

Overview of the ZWILLING Electric Kettle Recall

According to the recall notice, certain electric kettles may pose a serious burn hazard to consumers.

The recall reportedly warns about risks involving:

Hot water spills

Burn injuries

Potential serious scalding incidents

Appliances designed to heat boiling liquids must safely contain hot water during operation and pouring.

Why Electric Kettle Defects Can Be Dangerous

Electric kettles heat water to extremely high temperatures within minutes. If the appliance malfunctions, boiling water or steam may escape unexpectedly.

Potential dangers include:

Scalding hot water spilling onto users

Steam burns

Lid or handle failures

Sudden leaks during pouring

Because users often handle kettles directly while pouring boiling water, injuries may occur instantly.

Common Injuries Linked to Electric Kettle Accidents

Electric kettle incidents may result in serious injuries, including:

First-, second-, and third-degree burns

Scald injuries

Hand and arm burns

Facial burns

Permanent scarring or disfigurement

Children and older adults may therefore face an increased risk of severe burn injuries and, in turn, may require more extensive medical care and recovery.

How These Incidents May Occur

Examples of electric kettle accidents may include:

A kettle leaking boiling water unexpectedly

A lid detaching during pouring

A handle failure causing hot water spills

Steam escaping through defective seals

Even during ordinary household use, defective products may create dangerous conditions.

Product Liability and Burn Injury Claims

Electric kettle injury cases are generally evaluated under product liability law, which may hold manufacturers and sellers responsible if a product is unreasonably dangerous.

Legal claims may include:

1. Design Defect

Allegations that the kettle or components were defectively designed.

2. Manufacturing Defect

Claims that certain kettles were improperly assembled or manufactured.

3. Failure to Warn

If consumers were not adequately warned about potential burn risks.

4. Negligence

Claims that the manufacturer failed to properly test or monitor product safety.

A recall may indicate a potential safety concern, but each case depends on the specific facts and evidence.

Who May Be Held Responsible?

Depending on the circumstances, potentially responsible parties may include:

Appliance component manufacturers

Homegoods

Retailers or distributors

Liability depends on whether a defect contributed to the injuries.

Document how the incident occurred

Consult an attorney experienced in product liability cases

Product recalls protect consumers from dangerous defects, but many people do not learn about a recall until after they or their child have already faced the risk. Manufacturers recall appliances, toys, electronics, and household products seemingly every week because of hazards such as fires, burns, choking, falls, lacerations, and electrical failures.

If you recently learned that a recalled appliance or toy sits in your home, you may feel unsure about what to do next. especially if the product has already caused an injury or a close call. Understanding how recalls work and what steps to take can help protect your family’s safety and preserve your legal rights.

This guide explains what a recall means, what actions to consider immediately, and what options may be available if a recalled product caused harm.

Why Product Recalls Happen

Manufacturers or regulators typically issue recalls when they find that a product poses an unreasonable risk of injury or death. Recalls may be triggered by:

Consumer injury reports

Complaints to regulators

Manufacturer testing

Government investigations

In the United States, many recalls are announced or overseen by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), while others involve the FDA or NHTSA, depending on the product.

Importantly, recalls are often issued after products have already been sold and used, meaning injuries may occur before corrective action is taken.

Common Reasons Appliances and Toys Are Recalled

Manufacturers and regulators frequently recall appliances and toys more than most other consumer products. Common hazards include:

Appliance Recall Risks

Fire or overheating hazards

Electrical shock

Exploding batteries

Burn injuries

Mechanical failures

Toy Recall Risks

Choking hazards from small parts

Lead or toxic materials

Sharp edges

Strangulation risks

Fall or collapse hazards

Children face higher risk, which is why regulators treat toy recalls with urgency.

Step 1: Stop Using the Recalled Product Immediately

If a product you own has been recalled:

Stop using it right away

Keep it out of reach of children

Disconnect appliances from power sources if applicable

Even if the product appears to be working normally, continued use may increase the risk of injury.

Step 2: Identify Whether Your Product Is Affected

Not all recalls apply to every version of a product. Carefully check:

Brand name

Model number

Serial number

Lot or batch number

Manufacturing date

You can often find this information on the product itself, the packaging, or the purchase receipt.

Step 3: Follow the Recall Instructions Carefully

Recall notices may offer:

Free repairs

Replacement products

Refunds

Safety kits or updated instructions

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions exactly. However, keep in mind that repairs or refunds do not compensate for injuries that may have already occurred.

Step 4: Document Any Injuries or Close Calls

If the recalled product caused an injury, or nearly did, document everything:

Take photos of the product

Photograph injuries or damage

Save medical records

Keep receipts and packaging

Write down how the incident occurred

Even near-miss incidents may indicate a serious defect.

Step 5: Do Not Discard the Product Too Quickly

Many consumers throw away recalled products immediately. If an injury occurred, preserve the product if you can do so safely.

The product itself may be important evidence in determining:

Whether a defect existed

How the product failed

Whether warnings were adequate

Always prioritize safety, but avoid discarding the product before understanding your options.

Does a Recall Automatically Mean the Product Was Defective?

A recall does not always mean a product is legally defective, but it may be strong evidence of a safety issu, especially when:

Injuries have been reported

The recall addresses a known hazard

The product failed during normal use

Recalls are often used as supporting evidence in product liability claims.

What If a Recalled Product Caused an Injury?

If you or your child were injured by a recalled appliance or toy, you may have legal options beyond the recall remedy. Potential claims may involve:

Defective design

Manufacturing defects

Failure to warn

Negligence

Compensation may be available for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other losses.

Who May Be Responsible for a Recalled Product Injury

Depending on the circumstances, responsible parties may include:

The manufacturer

Designers or component suppliers

Importers or distributors

Retailers or online marketplaces

Liability is not always limited to one company.

Common Injuries Linked to Recalled Products

Recalled appliances and toys have been associated with:

Burn injuries

Lacerations

Broken bones

Head injuries

Choking or asphyxiation

Electrical shock

Some injuries may require long-term treatment or result in permanent harm.

Why Injuries Still Happen After Recalls Are Issued

Even after recalls are announced:

Consumers may not receive notices

Products may be resold or gifted

Secondhand items may remain in use

Repairs may be delayed

As a result, recalled products can continue to injure people long after the recall is issued.

What Parents and Consumers Should Do Going Forward

To reduce risk:

Register products when possible

Regularly check recall databases

Be cautious with secondhand items

Monitor children during product use

Staying informed can help prevent serious injuries.

Why an “Amazon Battery Recall Lawsuit”?

Amazon is a massive marketplace. Many third‑party sellers use Amazon’s platform to sell items ranging from power banks and battery packs to battery replacement modules. Unfortunately, with such volume comes risk: defective and unsafe batteries can slip through.

Recent recalls and lawsuits show that Amazon (as a retailer or distributor) may share liability when:

The battery was defective or poorly manufactured

The battery overheated, exploded, caught fire, or caused burns

Amazon failed to vet or remove dangerous products

Amazon continued to sell or list items even after safety warnings

The injured party can link the defective battery to a purchase made on Amazon

Consumers may file lawsuits over lithium-ion batteries linked to fires, explosions, and burn injuries.

Key Recalls & Hazards to Know

Anker Power Bank Recall (Model A1263)

In June 2025, the CPSC recalled over 1.15 million Anker PowerCore 10000 (model A1263) power banks after multiple incidents of overheating, fire, and minor burns.

Reports included property damage and two minor burn injuries.

These units were sold via Amazon, Newegg, and other online retailers.

Because power banks are classic battery-based devices commonly sold on Amazon, this recall is often central to battery injury claims against Amazon-linked sellers.

Amazon’s Role in Battery Safety

Amazon has been implicated in claims for selling defective lithium-ion batteries (e.g., lithium‑ion 18650 cells) without safety features or adequate warnings.

This example illustrate how Amazon’s oversight or negligence in regulating battery sales may expose them (or its sellers) to liability in battery injury cases.

Types of Injuries & Losses from Defective Batteries

When a battery fails, damage can be severe and far-reaching. Common harm may include:

Burn injuries (first-, second-, or third-degree)

Explosions or device rupture

Property damage (to cell phones, laptops, tables, walls)

Smoke damage

Loss of device function

Medical costs (emergency, treatment, follow-up)

Pain, suffering, emotional distress

Lost income from time off work

Future medical needs or disability

You do not need to suffer massive injury to have a valid claim — even moderate burns or destroyed property may be compensable.

You may be eligible if:

You bought a battery or battery-powered device (power bank, pack, charger) on Amazon

The battery malfunctioned, overheated, caught fire, or exploded

You can provide proof of purchase, device identification, photos, or the product itself

Your case is within the statute of limitations in your state

Even if you didn’t personally purchase it (e.g., received as a gift) but were harmed using it, you may have legal standing.

Statutes of Limitation & Timing

Battery injury claims are subject to state statutes of limitation. In most places:

Personal injury/product claims must typically be filed within 1 to 4 years of injury or discovery

Property damage claims have separate (sometimes shorter) windows

In many jurisdictions, the “discovery rule” allows the clock to start when you reasonably become aware of the injury

Delaying action can lead to loss of rights or key evidence, so it’s best to reach out quickly.

Q: Does a recall prevent me from suing?
No. A recall can be evidence of danger but does not eliminate liability.

Q: Can I sue Amazon even though it was a third-party seller?
Courts have increasingly held that Amazon can be treated as a retailer or distributor in certain product liability cases.

Q: What if I no longer have the device or battery?
You may still proceed using photos, purchase records, or testimonials — though having the physical product can strengthen your claim.

Q: What if the battery was used in a device (not standalone)?
You may still have a claim, as defective battery modules can render the entire device dangerous.

Q: How much does it cost to hire your firm?
We work on a contingency fee basis — you pay no fees or costs unless we recover compensation for you.

Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup Pools Recalled Due to Drowning Hazard

On July 21, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of over 5 million above-ground pools manufactured by Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup. The recalled models are 48 inches or taller and contain external compression straps that can serve as footholds, allowing children to climb into the pool without a ladder and posing a serious drowning risk.

The pools, sold nationwide since 2002, have been connected to the deaths of at least nine children between the ages of 22 months and 3 years, along with several near-drowning incidents.

What’s the Hazard?

A Fatal Design Flaw: Climbable Compression Straps

The recalled pools use compression straps to help maintain structural integrity. However, these straps run on the outside of the pool, wrapping over the vertical support legs—unintentionally creating a climbable surface for young children.

Even when the ladder is removed, a child can step on the compression strap, pull themselves up using the support poles, and gain access to the water. Tragically, this design has allegedly led to fatal consequences in multiple states, including California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Missouri.

The recall includes above-ground pools measuring 48 inches or taller with external compression straps. The affected models were sold under various brand names at major retailers and online outlets.

Polygroup Pool Recall Linked to Child Drowning Deaths

In July 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a major recall of approximately 5 million above-ground pools manufactured by Polygroup and two other companies. These 48-inch and taller pools pose a serious drowning hazard due to a design flaw involving external compression straps that run on the outside of the pool over the vertical support legs.

These straps, intended to provide structural support, unintentionally created footholds that children could use to climb into the pool—even without a ladder. Tragically, the CPSC has linked nine child drownings between 2007 and 2022 to this very hazard.

If your child or loved one drowned in a Polygroup pool later included in this recall, you may be entitled to seek justice through a wrongful death lawsuit.

Which Polygroup Pools Were Recalled?

The recall applies to multiple Polygroup pool models sold between 2006 and 2025, including:

Summer Escapes (2006–2015)

Summer Waves (2015–2025)

Funsicle (2023–2025)

Sand N Sun (2008–2011)

Blue Wave (2014–2025)

These pools were sold at major retailers nationwide—including Walmart, Target, Costco, The Home Depot, and online platforms such as Amazon and Wayfair.

If your pool featured a compression strap that ran outside and over the vertical support legs, it may be part of the recall—even if the drowning occurred years before the recall notice was issued.

What Is a Wrongful Death Lawsuit?

A wrongful death lawsuit is a civil legal action brought by surviving family members when a person dies due to someone else’s negligence. In this case, you may be able to hold Polygroup accountable for:

Manufacturing or distributing a dangerously designed product

Failing to properly warn consumers of potential risks

Not recalling the product in a timely manner

A lawyer experienced in product recalls and child safety lawsuits can help investigate the claim and determine whether your pool qualifies under the recall—and whether Polygroup may be legally responsible.

What Compensation Can Be Recovered?

If your lawsuit is successful, you may be eligible for compensation covering:

Loss of companionship and guidance

Emotional pain and suffering

Potential punitive damages for gross negligence

Frequently Asked Questions

What if the drowning happened before the recall?

You can still file a wrongful death lawsuit even if the drowning occurred before the product was officially recalled. The key factor is whether the pool had a dangerous design flaw—not when the company acknowledged it.

Do I need a purchase receipt to file a claim?

Not necessarily. Photos of the pool, documentation of ownership, or witness testimony may be enough to prove the model involved.

How long do I have to file a claim?

Wrongful death statutes of limitations vary by state, but many allow between one to three years from the date of death. Acting quickly ensures the preservation of evidence and your legal rights.

Dangerous Incident: RoomieTEC Vacuum Fire Sends Alarming Warning to Consumers

A 75-year-old consumer was allegedly injured when his RoomieTEC cordless stick vacuum (Model #DH071A, also known as the Vincent-SL587) reportedly caught on fire inside a closet. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), a faulty battery caused the fire—a conclusion the responding Deputy Fire Marshal also supported.

The victim reported the incident after hearing a smoke detector alarm and discovering the fire had ignited while the vacuum was lying on top of a plastic bin. Fortunately, firefighters contained the blaze before it caused more extensive damage or life-threatening injury—but it still injured the victim and caused property damage. The victim reached out to the manufacturer for help but allegedly received no response.

Product Details: RoomieTEC Cordless Stick Vacuum

· Brand: RoomieTEC

· Model: DH071A / Vincent-SL587

· Manufacturer: Roomie Innovations Co.

· Purchase Location: Walmart.com

· Purchase Date: December 7, 2022

· Battery Type: Rechargeable lithium-ion (inferred based on product type)

· Incident Date: May 23, 2025

This model is part of a growing category of cordless vacuums, which offer convenience but come with inherent risks due to the use of lithium-ion batteries—the same type of battery responsible for fires in scooters, laptops, and phones.

What Caused the Fire?

The owner reportedly wasn’t using the vacuum at the time and had removed it from its charging dock before placing it inside a closet. The consumer reported that the roller motor and LED light remained on, suggesting a malfunction in the power control system. The vacuum caught fire shortly after the owner placed it in the closet, triggering a smoke alarm and prompting an emergency response.

The Fire Marshal concluded the cause to be a battery-related failure, which aligns with growing reports of lithium-ion battery fires in consumer electronics and small appliances.

Manufacturer’s Response (or Lack Thereof)

Despite multiple attempts to contact RoomieTEC’s customer service, the consumer alleged that he received no direct assistance or responsibility from the manufacturer. After the injured consumer mailed the burned vacuum to the company’s listed address for evaluation, the box came back marked “RoomieTEC has moved,” leaving them without answers or a working resolution.

This lack of follow-up could indicate negligent post-market product support.

Fire and Burn Hazards from Lithium-Ion Powered Devices

Cordless appliances like stick vacuums rely on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which, while powerful and efficient, can become unstable if poorly manufactured, overcharged, or damaged. If thermal runaway occurs (a chain reaction where the battery overheats and ignites), the results can be catastrophic.

Common fire risks with defective lithium-ion vacuums include:

· Overheating during or after charging

· Internal battery short circuits

· Inadequate venting or overheating protection

· No automatic shut-off for power control issues

In this case, the fact that components stayed powered while off and ultimately ignited a fire suggests a possible product design or manufacturing defect.

Can You Sue for a Defective Cordless Vacuum?

Yes. Under product liability law, manufacturers can be held responsible for injuries or property damage caused by defective or dangerous products, especially when caused by faulty design, poor quality control, or inadequate warnings.

A claim could be based on:

· Design defect – The battery or power system posed a foreseeable risk.

· Manufacturing defect – The specific unit was improperly assembled or used substandard materials.

· Failure to warn – No adequate instructions or fire-risk warnings were provided.

What Damages Could Be Recovered?

If your home or body was harmed by a faulty appliance like the RoomieTEC vacuum, you may be entitled to compensation for:

· Medical expenses (even if first aid was self-administered)

· Pain and suffering

· Property damage (furniture, floors, walls, storage bins, etc.)

· Cost to replace the vacuum

· Emotional distress, especially for elderly victims or those living alone

· Punitive damages, if the manufacturer’s conduct was especially reckless or indifferent

What Should You Do If You Have a Cordless Vacuum That Caught Fire?

1. Unplug and discontinue use immediately.

2. Document everything – Take photos of the burned area, product, and any injuries.

3. Keep the damaged vacuum – Do not dispose of it or return it until you speak with an attorney.

4. File a report with the CPSC at www.saferproducts.gov.

Is RoomieTEC responsible even if the product is out of warranty?
Possibly. A warranty only covers repairs or replacements—it does not protect the manufacturer from liability if their product causes injury or damage.

Are lithium-ion vacuum fires common?
Unfortunately, yes. Reports of fires caused by battery-powered devices are rising, and vacuums are playing an increasing role in these incidents.

Can I sue even if I wasn’t hospitalized?
Possibly. Legal claims can still be valid if you received minor injuries or incurred property damage and emotional distress.

What if the manufacturer won’t respond?
That doesn’t prevent you from pursuing legal action. An experienced product liability attorney can help you initiate a claim and gather the necessary evidence.

Should I contact RoomieTEC again?
It’s often best to consult a lawyer first to avoid jeopardizing your rights or claim. You should consider handling any communication with the manufacturer strategically.

Take Action After a Fire Caused by a Faulty Vacuum

A cordless vacuum should clean your home—not burn it down. If a RoomieTEC vacuum caught fire and injured you or damaged your property, you may be entitled to compensation.

Heated clothing has grown in popularity across the United States, especially for outdoor enthusiasts and workers in cold climates.

Details of the Fieldsheer Heated Sock Recall

On August 7, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in conjunction with Canadian authorities, announced a recall of Fieldsheer Apparel Technologies heated socks. The recall affects three models:

Model MWMS05 – Merino (black/gray)

Model MWWS07 – Premium 2.0 Merino (gray/pink)

Model MWMS07 – Premium 2.0 Merino (black/orange and gray/orange)

These socks were sold between August 2021 and June 2025 at major retailers, including Home Depot, Meijer, Fleet Farm, Scheels All Sports, and on Amazon.com, with a retail price of $80–$130.

The Hazard

The socks include lithium-ion battery packs that generate heat. When worn during high-intensity activities that cause friction, moisture, and pressure, the socks can overheat and lead to painful burns or blisters.

Incidents Reported

Fieldsheer has allegedly received 11 reports of the socks causing discomfort, including 4 confirmed burn injuries. While no fatalities have been reported, burn injuries can result in long-term scarring, nerve damage, and emotional trauma.

Remedy Offered

Consumers are advised to:

Stop using the socks immediately.

Contact Fieldsheer for a refund or replacement product of equal value.

Why Lithium-Ion Battery Products Pose Risks

The recall highlights growing safety concerns with lithium-ion batteries, which are found in many heated clothing items, power banks, and personal electronics. These batteries are compact and powerful, but they can also be unstable if improperly designed or manufactured.

Common hazards include:

Overheating and thermal runaway

Explosions and fires

Skin contact burns from overheating surfaces

Electrical malfunctions when exposed to sweat or moisture

In this case, the heated socks combined battery heat with friction and moisture, creating conditions that could easily harm the wearer.

Hypothetical Example: Heated Sock Burn Injury

Let’s say a consumer in Orlando purchased a pair of Fieldsheer heated socks online for winter camping. After only 30 minutes of hiking, the socks begin to overheat. She feels burning sensations on her feet and later develops second-degree burns and blisters, requiring medical care.

In a situation like this, the victim may be entitled to bring a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer and distributor for selling a defective and unreasonably dangerous product.

Who May Be Liable for Heated Sock Injuries?

Several parties could potentially be responsible for consumer injuries from defective heated socks:

Fieldsheer Apparel Technologies (manufacturer) – for designing and selling unsafe heated socks.

Retailers (Amazon, Home Depot, Meijer, etc.) – under product liability law, retailers can also be held responsible for selling defective products.

Battery component suppliers – if a faulty lithium-ion battery caused the overheating.

Our firm can investigate each case to identify all possible responsible parties to maximize recovery for injured victims.

Types of Injuries Caused by Heated Socks

Burn injuries can range from minor to life-altering. Victims of the Fieldsheer heated sock recall have reported:

First-degree burns – Redness and irritation.

Second-degree burns – Painful blisters and skin damage.

Third-degree burns – Deep tissue damage, possible nerve injury.

Infection – Burn wounds are prone to infection if not properly treated.

Scarring and disfigurement – Long-term cosmetic and functional damage.

Even seemingly “minor” burns may require ongoing care, scar revision surgery, or physical therapy.

Compensation Available in a Heated Sock Injury Lawsuit

Victims of defective product injuries may be entitled to compensation, including:

Medical expenses – Emergency treatment, burn unit care, follow-up visits, and reconstructive surgery.

Lost wages – If recovery time forces missed work.

Future earning capacity – For permanent injuries affecting your ability to work.

Pain and suffering – For physical pain and emotional trauma.

Scarring and disfigurement damages – For lasting burn marks.

Wrongful death damages – If a defective product leads to a fatal injury.

Steps to Take If You Own Fieldsheer Heated Socks

If you purchased or received a pair of recalled Fieldsheer heated socks, here’s what to do if you were burned by heated socks:

Stop using them immediately.

Check the model number. Affected models are MWMS05, MWWS07, and MWMS07.

Preserve the lithium-ion battery pack. Do not throw it in the trash or curbside recycling.

Seek medical care if you notice burns, blisters, or discomfort.

Document injuries with photos, medical records, and receipts.

Speak with a product liability lawyer to explore your legal rights.

Why Hire a Lawyer for a Heated Sock Recall Case?

While Fieldsheer is offering refunds or replacements, that does not cover medical bills, lost wages, or long-term suffering caused by burn injuries. A lawyer can help by:

Reviewing your medical records.

Preserving the defective socks and battery pack as evidence.

Investigating whether similar injuries were reported.

Filing claims against the manufacturer, distributor, or retailer.

Negotiating settlements with insurance companies.

Taking the case to trial if necessary.

At the Law Offices of Jason Turchin, we have experience handling burn injury and product liability claims involving defective consumer products.

When you buy outdoor power tools, you trust they’ll help you maintain your home safely. Unfortunately, recent news shows that even well-known brands can release products that pose serious injury risks. In February 2025, TTI Outdoor Power Equipment recalled more than 300,000 Ryobi 40-Volt 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmers because of a laceration hazard.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the trimmers can start unexpectedly when left in the “off” position, creating the risk that users could suffer serious cuts while handling or maintaining them. For those who purchased this tool, the recall is a warning sign that everyday yardwork could suddenly turn dangerous.

At The Law Offices of Jason Turchin, we help individuals who are injured by defective products, including recalled power tools like the Ryobi hedge trimmer. If you or someone you love was hurt while using this hedge trimmer, you may have the right to pursue a claim for compensation.

Understanding the Ryobi Hedge Trimmer Recall

Product involved: Ryobi 40-Volt 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer

Model numbers: RY40601 and RY40601-2B

Units recalled: About 300,000 sold in the U.S.

Hazard: The trimmer can start even when the power switch is in the “off” position, creating a risk of lacerations.

Where sold: Home Depot and various online retailers nationwide between October 2021 and November 2024.

Consumers are being advised to stop using the recalled hedge trimmers immediately and contact Ryobi for a free repair. While the recall aims to prevent further accidents, it doesn’t undo injuries that already happened.

What Injuries Can a Hedge Trimmer Defect Cause?

Power tools like hedge trimmers already carry inherent risks if misused. But when a tool is defective, even safe handling may not be enough to prevent injury. Reported and potential injuries from defective hedge trimmers include:

Severe lacerations to the hands, arms, or legs

Permanent nerve damage or loss of function in fingers or hands

Deep cuts requiring stitches or reconstructive surgery

Infections from contaminated wounds

Emotional trauma and anxiety around using tools again

In some cases, these injuries can lead to time off work, medical bills, and long-term physical limitations. Victims shouldn’t have to bear these costs alone when the product itself was unsafe.

Legal Rights After a Defective Power Tool Injury

If you were hurt by a defective Ryobi hedge trimmer, you may be entitled to pursue a product liability claim. These cases typically focus on proving that the product was unreasonably dangerous and that the defect caused your injuries.

Types of claims may include:

Design defect – If the hedge trimmer’s design made it likely to start unexpectedly.

Manufacturing defect – If the defect arose in production, making certain units unsafe.

Failure to warn – If warnings or instructions didn’t adequately describe the risks.

Compensation in these claims may cover:

Medical bills and future treatment

Lost income or reduced earning ability

Pain and suffering

Permanent disability or scarring

Why Contact an Experienced Product Liability Lawyer

Companies like Ryobi and their parent manufacturers have teams of lawyers protecting their interests. Injured consumers may face challenges when trying to handle these claims alone. An experienced product liability lawyer can help by:

Investigating the recall and gathering evidence of defects

Preserving the defective trimmer as proof

Working with medical and engineering experts to link the defect to the injury

Negotiating with insurance companies or pursuing a lawsuit for full compensation

The Law Offices of Jason Turchin has handled many injury claims involving defective consumer products, including those against Ryobi. We understand the legal complexities of product liability and fight to hold negligent manufacturers accountable.

The Bestway Pool Recall: A Deadly Design Flaw

In July 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in partnership with Bestway (USA) Inc. and Bestway (Hong Kong) International Ltd., issued a massive recall of 48-inch and taller above-ground pools equipped with external compression straps. These straps, designed to maintain the structural integrity of the pool, created dangerous footholds that children could use to climb into the water—even when no ladder was present.

Tragically, the CPSC has allegedly linked at least nine child drownings—all involving toddlers between the ages of 22 months and 3 years old—to these faulty Bestway pools. If your family has experienced a similar loss, you may have legal grounds to seek justice and compensation.

What Is a Wrongful Death Lawsuit?

A wrongful death case allows the surviving family members of a deceased individual to hold a negligent party accountable in civil court. In the case of a Bestway pool drowning, you may be able to prove that the manufacturer or distributor failed to warn users about the dangerous foothold hazard—or that the product was unreasonably unsafe for household use.

Key Elements of a Wrongful Death Claim After a Bestway Pool Accident

To file a valid wrongful death lawsuit, you generally must prove:

A defective or hazardous condition existed in the Bestway pool design (e.g., the external compression strap).

The defect directly contributed to the drowning—such as allowing a toddler to climb in unattended.

A close family member died as a result of the accident.

You have legal standing to file the claim (e.g., as a parent, legal guardian, or estate representative).

Bestway Pool Models Affected by the Recall

Recalled Bestway pool models include:

What Compensation Can Be Recovered?

Wrongful death lawsuits may allow you to recover financial compensation for:

Loss of future earnings and financial support

What if the drowning happened before the recall?

You may still be able to file a wrongful death claim if the pool design was defective before the recall notice. Courts may consider it negligence when the manufacturer fails to warn consumers about the danger.

How long do I have to file a wrongful death lawsuit?

Each state has its own statute of limitations, typically between 1 to 3 years from the date of death. It’s often important to act quickly to preserve your legal rights.

Do I need proof of purchase?

While a receipt can help, it’s not always necessary. Photos of the pool, witness testimony, or serial numbers may be enough to establish the product’s identity.

Intex Pools Under Recall Following Drowning Hazard

In July 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Intex Recreation Corp. announced a recall of certain 48-inch and taller above-ground pools manufactured with external compression straps. These straps, which run around the outside of the pool and over the vertical support legs, have been found to create dangerous footholds that allow children to climb into the pool—even without a ladder present.

The recall follows reports that at least nine young children drowned after gaining access to the pool via these footholds. If your loved one was one of them, you may have legal options.

Understanding Wrongful Death in the Context of a Product Recall

A wrongful death lawsuit is a civil claim that arises when a person dies due to the negligence, recklessness, or misconduct of another party. In the case of the Intex pool recall, the responsible party may include:

Intex Recreation Corp., as the product manufacturer

Retailers or distributors that sold the recalled pool

Other parties who may have contributed to the unsafe conditions

Criteria for Filing a Wrongful Death Lawsuit After an Intex Pool Drowning

To successfully file a claim, you must typically prove the following:

The pool was defective or unreasonably dangerous, particularly due to the external compression straps.

The defect directly led to the drowning, such as a child climbing into the pool using the straps.

The victim died as a result of the incident.

The claimant has legal standing, such as being a parent, spouse, child, or personal representative of the deceased’s estate.

Our legal team can help investigate the details and gather the necessary evidence to support your claim.

If you lost someone in an Intex pool accident, here’s what you should do immediately:

1. Secure the Pool and Preserve Evidence

Do not discard the pool or accessories.

Take clear photos showing the external compression strap configuration.

Document the pool’s condition, brand markings, and any warning labels.

These can help establish the official cause of death and timeline.

3. Consult an Experienced Product Liability Attorney

An attorney can verify whether the pool involved matches the recalled models and help you determine liability.

Details of the Intex Pool Recall

The recalled Intex pools were sold between 2002 and 2012, and again in 2024–2025 exclusively on Intexcorp.com and Walmart.com.

Key facts about the recall:

The external compression straps created an unintended climbing aid.

Nine children between 22 months and 3 years old are believed to have drowned due to this hazard.

Intex is providing free repair kits to current pool owners.

Consumers are urged to cut and remove the compression strap only after installing the new safety rope included in the repair kit.

If your drowning incident occurred before the recall was announced—or even before the kits were available—this could further strengthen your legal claim.

Punitive damages (if gross negligence is proven)

You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and associated losses.

Incident Overview

A 23-year-old man was seriously injured after a SaunaBox brand at-home steam sauna allegedly malfunctioned. Within three minutes of powering the device on, the water reservoir began to emit smoke according to a report. When the user lightly touched the top of the water box lid—without turning or removing it—the lid popped off violently, and scalding water exploded onto his face, ceiling, and walls.

The young man sustained second-degree burns to his face and right shoulder and had to be airlifted to a specialized burn unit for emergency medical treatment. The incident took place inside his home on December 31, 2024.

The Hidden Dangers of Home Steam Saunas

Steam saunas are marketed for their relaxation and health benefits, but when manufactured poorly or without adequate pressure control, they can become extremely dangerous. Risks associated with steam sauna equipment include:

Steam and Water Pressure Explosions – If safety valves or pressure regulation features fail, scalding water and steam can erupt without warning.

Second- and Third-Degree Burns – Exposure to boiling water can cause severe tissue damage, scarring, and long-term complications.

Electrical Hazards – Moisture inside the unit may compromise wiring or short circuits.

Structural Damage – Explosions can damage walls, ceilings, and floors in residential homes.

Legal Grounds for a Product Liability Claim

When a product like a personal sauna causes serious injury during normal use, it may be considered legally defective. Consumers may be entitled to file a product liability claim based on:

Design Defect

If the product lacked proper pressure release valves or safety locks on the lid, the design may be inherently dangerous.

Manufacturing Defect

A defect in assembly or material failure (such as faulty seals or thin plastic) may be to blame for the explosion.

Failure to Warn

If the product lacked clear instructions or warning labels about the dangers of touching the water box during heating, this could represent a failure to warn consumers.

Negligent Quality Control

Products like saunas should undergo rigorous testing before sale. Failing to identify explosive risks may constitute negligence on the part of the manufacturer.

Compensation for Steam Sauna Burn Injuries

Victims of product-related burn injuries may be entitled to compensation for:

Emergency Medical Treatment – Including air ambulance transport, ER visits, and hospitalization.

Burn Recovery – Costs for skin grafts, wound care, therapy, and follow-up treatments.

Pain and Suffering – Compensation for the physical pain and emotional distress caused by the trauma.

Disfigurement and Scarring – Particularly for burns to the face and upper body.

Property Damage – Including damage to ceilings, walls, and home furnishings.

Punitive Damages – In cases of gross negligence or serious safety oversights.

What to Do If You’re Injured by a Steam Sauna

Seek Emergency Medical Help – Prompt treatment is critical for serious burns.

Photograph the Scene – Take images of the product, injuries, and any damage to your home.

Preserve the Product – Do not throw away or alter the sauna; it may be critical evidence.

As of now, no official recall has been issued. However, this report may prompt further investigation by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Can steam saunas explode like pressure cookers?

Product liability law holds manufacturers accountable when their products cause harm due to defects. In the case of the Temp-tations Oven Glove recall, victims who have suffered burn injuries may be able to pursue compensation through a product liability claim.

The three main types of product liability claims include:
