If you suffered a Ninja PossibleCooker burn injury, you may be able to file a product liability claim for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other losses, depending on what caused the harm. Injured users, and sometimes family members hurt nearby, may have options. Call the Law Offices of Jason Turchin today at 800-337-7755.

What People Are Reporting Online About the PossibleCooker PRO Plus

The Ninja PossibleCooker PRO Plus is a multi-cooker made or sold by SharkNinja. It is marketed to replace several kitchen tools at once, which means it may be used for searing, slow cooking, steaming and more. Because these appliances combine high heat, electricity and hot liquids in one countertop unit, a malfunction can turn a routine dinner into an emergency.

In a recent review in September 2026, the reviewer described the unit catching fire near the cord connection area during only its second use. It is important to be clear about what this means. This is an unverified, first-hand account that one person shared online. It has not been confirmed by any agency, and it does not establish that the product is defective or that the manufacturer is at fault. Still, reports like this can be a useful early signal, and anyone who experienced something similar may want to take steps to protect their health and their rights.

What to Do If a Multi-Cooker Burned, Shocked or Hurt You

The hours and days after an appliance injury can be confusing. These steps may help protect both your recovery and any potential claim:

Get medical care first. Burns, smoke inhalation and electrical shocks can be more serious than they first appear. A medical record also documents the injury close to when it happened.

Keep the product and its packaging. Do not throw away, repair or return the multi-cooker, the cord, the lid or any accessories. The physical product may be the most important evidence in a product liability case.

Take photos and videos. Photograph the appliance, the outlet, scorch marks, damaged counters or cabinets, and your injuries as they heal.

Save your purchase records. Receipts, order confirmations, the model and serial number label, and the user manual can all help show what you bought and when.

Check for recalls. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission lists announced recalls at cpsc.gov/Recalls. You can also report a safety incident through SaferProducts.gov.

Be careful with company communications. If a seller or manufacturer asks you to ship the unit back or sign a form, you may want to speak with a lawyer before agreeing.

Talk to a product liability lawyer. An experienced attorney can review who may be responsible, such as the manufacturer, a component maker, a distributor or a retailer.

Who May Be Responsible for a Multi-Cooker Injury?

Florida product liability law may allow injured people to seek compensation when a product is unreasonably dangerous. Claims are often built around one or more of these theories:

Design defect: the product’s design itself may create an unreasonable risk, even when made correctly.

Manufacturing defect: a particular unit may have left the factory with a flaw, such as faulty wiring or a weak seal.

Failure to warn: the instructions or labels may not have adequately explained a hidden risk.

Negligence: a company in the chain of distribution may have failed to use reasonable care.

Whether any of these apply depends on the facts, the evidence and how the product was used. SharkNinja products have been the subject of past attention, including a recall of Foodi pressure cookers that you can read about in our post on SharkNinja pressure cooker burn injuries. That history does not mean this multi-cooker has any problem, but it shows why careful investigation matters.

Examples of How Pressure Cooker Cases May Arise

The following are hypothetical examples meant to illustrate common situations. They are not actual cases or results from our firm.

A steam or liquid burn: A user opens the lid after a cooking cycle and is hit by a burst of steam and hot liquid. A claim may turn on whether the lid design or the warnings were adequate.

Bought online: A buyer orders the appliance through an online marketplace and later suffers a burn. Questions may arise about the seller’s role, which we discuss in our article on burn injuries from products bought on Amazon.

We can also handle claims involving similar kitchen appliances, including Ninja air fryer burn and fire claims and SharkNinja blender explosion injuries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ninja PossibleCooker PRO Plus recalled?

Recall status can change. Check the CPSC recall database for the most current information. Even if no recall exists, you may still have a claim if a product injured you.

Can I file a claim if complaints exists online?

Possibly. A claim usually depends on the facts of your own injury and the evidence about your unit, not the number of online reviews.

What if I was using the cooker slightly differently than the manual says?

You may still have options. Florida considers comparative fault, so how the product was used may affect a claim without automatically ending it.

How long do I have to take action?

Florida sets deadlines for injury claims, and some may be as short as two years. Speaking with a lawyer soon can help protect your rights.

Should I send the multi-cooker back to the company?

It may be wise to speak with an attorney first. Once the product leaves your possession, important evidence may be lost or altered.

Talk With an Experienced Product Liability Lawyer

If a multi-cooker burned, shocked or otherwise hurt you or someone in your family, you do not have to sort out the next steps alone. Our experienced team can review what happened, explain your possible options and help identify who may be responsible.
If you or a loved one were burned when a Tristar 6-Quart Power Quick Pot pressure cooker (model Y6D-36) opened while pressurized, you may be able to pursue a Power Quick Pot burn lawsuit seeking compensation for medical bills, lost income, scarring and pain. Call the Law Offices of Jason Turchin for a free consultation at 800-337-7755.

On October 15, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a safety warning telling consumers to immediately stop using the 6-Quart Power Quick Pot electric pressure cookers, model Y6D-36. According to the CPSC warning, the cooker’s lid can open while the unit is still pressurized, causing hot contents to be expelled unexpectedly. The agency reports it has obtained 24 reports of these cookers expelling hot contents, resulting in serious burn injuries.

What makes this warning stand out is what did not happen. The CPSC states that the importer, Tristar Products, Inc., of Altamonte Springs, Florida, has refused to recall these products or offer a remedy to consumers. That means there is no refund, no repair and no replacement program. People who own one of these cookers are being told to stop using it and dispose of it, and people who were already hurt may be left wondering where to turn.

What the CPSC Warning Says About the Power Quick Pot

Here are the key details from the CPSC safety warning (Product Safety Warning Number 27-030):

Product: Power Quick Pot 6-Quart electric pressure cookers, model Y6D-36

Hazard: The lid can open while pressurized, causing hot contents to be expelled unexpectedly

Units: About 393,000

Reported incidents: 24 reports of hot contents being expelled, resulting in serious burn injuries

Sold at: Walmart.com, Amazon.com, Ebay.com and other retailers nationwide from about July 2018 to November 2023, for between $44 and $160

Importer: Tristar Products, Inc., of Altamonte Springs, Florida

Manufactured in: China

The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the cookers immediately, dispose of them, and not sell or give them away. The agency also asks people to report any injury or product defect at SaferProducts.gov.

How to Tell If You Own the Affected Cooker

According to the CPSC, the affected cookers are stainless steel with a black pressure lid, button controls and a digital temperature and function display. “Power Quick Pot” is printed on the front, and the model number appears on a label on the back of the unit. If the label reads Y6D-36, your cooker is covered by the warning.

Many of these cookers were bought online years ago, and some were given as gifts. If you are not sure where yours came from, the label on the back is the most reliable way to check.

Why a Pressure Cooker Lid Opening Under Pressure Is So Dangerous

A pressure cooker works by trapping steam so the liquid inside can reach temperatures above normal boiling. That is what makes it fast. It is also why a lid failure can be so harmful. When a lid releases while the pot is still pressurized, the contents may not simply spill. They can be forced out of the pot, spraying boiling liquid, steam and food across the kitchen and onto whoever is standing nearby.

Burns from pressurized contents often affect the face, neck, chest, arms and hands, because people are usually leaning over or standing directly in front of the cooker when they open it. Soups, stews, beans and rice can cling to skin, which may lengthen contact time and deepen the burn. Injuries can range from painful first-degree burns to second- and third-degree burns that may require hospital care, wound treatment, skin grafts and long-term scar management.

Most home cooks assume a pressure cooker’s lid will stay locked while pressure remains inside. When a product is designed and marketed with safety locking features, users reasonably rely on them. If those features fail, the law may hold the companies responsible for the product accountable for the harm.

Who May Be Responsible for Power Quick Pot Burn Injuries

Florida product liability law can allow injured people to seek compensation from companies in the chain of distribution when a defective product causes harm. Depending on the facts, potentially responsible parties may include:

The importer and distributor. The CPSC identifies Tristar Products, Inc. as the importer. Because the products were manufactured in China, the company that brought them into the U.S. market may play a central role in a claim.

The manufacturer. The overseas company that built the cooker may also share responsibility, though pursuing foreign manufacturers can raise additional legal issues.

Retailers and sellers. In some situations, companies that sold the product may be part of a claim, depending on their role and the applicable law.

Product liability claims are commonly built on one or more theories, such as a design defect (the lid or locking system may have been unsafe as designed), a manufacturing defect (a particular unit may have been built incorrectly), or a failure to warn (instructions and warnings may not have adequately described the risks). An experienced attorney can review how your injury happened and which theories may fit.

Compensation You May Be Able to Seek

In a Power Quick Pot burn lawsuit, an injured person may be able to pursue damages for losses such as:

Emergency room, hospital and burn unit costs

Surgery, skin grafts and wound care

Future medical treatment, including scar revision

Lost wages and reduced ability to earn income

Pain and suffering

Disfigurement and scarring

Emotional distress and loss of enjoyment of life

When a child is injured, parents may also have claims for certain medical expenses they paid. No attorney can promise a specific outcome, but a careful review of your losses can help you understand what may be available.

What to Do If You Were Burned by a Power Quick Pot

Get medical care. Burns can worsen over hours or days. Prompt treatment protects your health and creates a record of your injuries.

Stop using the cooker. Unplug it and do not use it again.

Talk to a lawyer before throwing it away. The CPSC advises disposal, but if you were injured, the cooker itself may be important evidence. Consider storing it safely, unplugged and out of reach, until you have spoken with an attorney.

Take photos. Photograph your injuries over time, the cooker, the label showing model Y6D-36 and the scene where it happened.

Save your records. Keep receipts, order confirmations from Walmart.com, Amazon.com, Ebay.com or other sellers, the manual and the box if you still have them.

Report the incident. You may report your injury to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.

Be careful with statements. Avoid giving recorded statements to the company or its insurers before getting legal advice.

Founding attorney Jason Turchin and our team understand that a serious burn can change daily life, from work and family routines to how a person feels about their appearance. We work to investigate how the injury happened, gather medical and product evidence, and pursue the parties who may be responsible. Because Tristar is based in Altamonte Springs, Florida, Florida residents in particular may have questions about how a claim against a Florida company would proceed, and we are glad to talk through those questions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Power Quick Pot Burn Claims

Is the Power Quick Pot being recalled?

According to the CPSC, Tristar Products, Inc. has refused to recall the 6-Quart Power Quick Pot model Y6D-36 or offer a remedy. The CPSC issued a safety warning instead, urging consumers to stop using the cookers immediately.

Can I file a claim even though there is no official recall?

Possibly. A recall is not required to bring a product liability claim. If a defect in the cooker caused your injury, you may have legal rights whether or not the product was formally recalled.

What if I used the cooker incorrectly?

Companies sometimes argue that users made a mistake. That does not automatically end a claim. Products are generally expected to be reasonably safe for foreseeable use, and safety locks are designed to prevent a lid from opening under pressure. An attorney can review what happened in your case.

I already threw my cooker away. Do I still have a case?

You may. Having the cooker can help, but photos, purchase records, medical records and witness accounts can also support a claim. Let us know what evidence you still have.

How long do I have to file a Power Quick Pot burn lawsuit in Florida?

Florida law sets deadlines for injury claims, and for some types of claims the deadline can be as short as two years. The time limit that applies may depend on the legal theories involved and when the injury occurred. Contacting a lawyer soon can help protect your rights.

How much does it cost to talk to your firm?

Consultations are free. Our firm handles personal injury cases on a contingency fee basis, which generally means you pay no attorney fees unless there is a recovery.

Do I have to live in Florida to get help?

Our firm focuses on Florida, but the cookers were sold nationwide. If you were hurt outside Florida, call us to discuss your situation and options.

Talk to a Florida Pressure Cooker Burn Lawyer Today

About 393,000 of these cookers were sold, and many may still be sitting on kitchen counters. If a Tristar Power Quick Pot lid opened under pressure and burned you or someone you love, you do not have to sort through the next steps alone. The Law Offices of Jason Turchin can review your situation, explain your possible options and help you decide how to move forward.

When a consumer buys a product, the last thing they expect is to get hurt by it. Unfortunately, defective products can and do cause serious injuries. From defective pressure cookers and dangerous children’s toys to faulty car airbags, injuries tied to unsafe products happen more often than most people realize.

In product liability law, there are three primary categories of claims that injured consumers may bring: design defects, manufacturing defects, and failure to warn (marketing defects). Understanding these categories can help you figure out whether you may have a valid claim if you or a loved one were injured by a defective product.

If you think you were harmed by a dangerous or defective product, the Law Offices of Jason Turchin may be able to help you explore your legal options.
The Three Main Types of Product Liability Claims

1. Design Defects

A design defect means the product was dangerous from the very beginning, before it was ever made. In other words, even if the product was manufactured correctly, the design itself was unreasonably dangerous.

Examples of Design Defects

SUV Rollover Cases – Some SUVs were designed with a high center of gravity, making them prone to tipping over even during normal driving.

Defective Medical Devices – A hip implant designed with a metal-on-metal surface may shed dangerous debris into a patient’s bloodstream.

Toys Without Safety Features – A children’s toy designed without proper choke hazard warnings or safety guards could pose a risk to toddlers.

In a design defect case, the claim focuses on whether the company could have designed the product in a safer way without sacrificing usefulness or affordability.

2. Manufacturing Defects

A manufacturing defect happens when a product is designed safely, but something goes wrong during the production process. These defects may affect a single product or an entire batch.

Examples of Manufacturing Defects

Pressure Cooker Explosions – Even if a pressure cooker was designed to release steam safely, one faulty valve installed at the factory could make it explode.

Contaminated Coffee or Food – Coffee bags or packaged foods that contain glass or metal fragments may have been contaminated during production.

Defective Tires – A tire might be designed well but manufactured with weak rubber, leading to tread separation and blowouts.

These cases usually require showing that the defect occurred in the factory and was not caused by the consumer.

3. Failure to Warn (Marketing Defects)

Failure to warn claims focus on whether the manufacturer properly instructed consumers on how to use the product safely or warned them about known risks. If a company knows a product could be dangerous but doesn’t provide adequate warnings, it may be held liable.

Examples of Failure to Warn

Prescription Medications – A drug company markets a pill but doesn’t disclose risks of dangerous side effects.

Household Cleaners – A cleaning solution sold without adequate warnings about mixing it with bleach could result in toxic gas exposure.

Consumer Electronics – A rechargeable battery may overheat if not used with the correct charger, but if the packaging doesn’t include that warning, injuries may occur.

Failure to warn cases often involve packaging, labels, instructions, or marketing materials that fail to explain proper use or dangers.

Why These Distinctions Matter

Identifying which type of product liability claim applies can be crucial in building a strong case. Each type of claim has different evidence requirements:

Design Defects: Experts may analyze alternative designs.

Manufacturing Defects: Investigators may examine the product itself and factory records.

Failure to Warn: Attorneys may review labels, warnings, and internal company knowledge of risks.

Sometimes, more than one category may apply to the same product. For example, a pressure cooker might be both defectively designed and sold without proper warnings.

Example Case Scenarios

Here are some hypothetical examples to illustrate how claims may work:

Miami Pressure Cooker Lawsuit – A family in Miami sues after a pressure cooker explodes due to a defective valve. This may fall under manufacturing defect if the valve was improperly made, or design defect if the cooker’s safety system was poorly designed.

Orlando Defective Toy Case – Parents in Orlando bring a claim after their child chokes on small detachable parts of a toy that should have been designed with safer parts. This could be a design defect.

New Jersey Prescription Drug Claim – A patient in New Jersey develops life-threatening side effects after taking a prescription drug. If the manufacturer failed to disclose the risk, this may be a failure to warn case.

Palm Beach Car Tire Lawsuit – A driver in Palm Beach is seriously injured after a new tire blows out due to a weakness in the rubber used in production. This may be a manufacturing defect.

What Damages Can Victims Recover?

Victims of defective products may be able to seek compensation for:

Medical expenses – including hospital care, surgery, and rehabilitation.

Lost income – if the injury caused missed work.

Pain and suffering – for both physical and emotional harm.

Property damage – such as a car wreck caused by defective tires.

Wrongful death damages – if a defective product causes a fatality.

E-commerce marketplaces have fundamentally changed the way we shop. With the click of a button, you can have everything from a kitchen appliance to winter gear delivered directly to your doorstep within 24 to 48 hours. Amazon hosts millions of third-party sellers, offering unparalleled convenience and an endless catalog of household goods. However, this massive, fast-moving digital supply chain has created a significant safety crisis for everyday consumers.

Many items sold online bypass traditional brick-and-mortar safety vetting. When electronic components are rushed through overseas factories, or when cheap materials are prioritized over rigorous safety testing, ordinary household items can transform into hidden hazards. Under product liability law, online marketplaces, distributors, and manufacturers can be held strictly liable if a defective product causes severe harm, property damage, or wrongful death.

At the Law Offices of Jason Turchin, our top rated, dedicated product liability lawyers fight to protect consumers who have been severely harmed by dangerous goods. We have the financial resources, technical experience, and engineering networks required to take on multi-national manufacturing operations and massive e-commerce corporate entities.

👉 If you or a loved one suffered severe burns, lacerations, or orthopedic trauma due to a defective product bought online, call us 24/7 at (800) 337-7755 or use our live chat for a free, fully confidential case evaluation.

1. Electric Pressure Cookers

Electric pressure cookers have become staple appliances in kitchens across the country. These devices rely on trapping superheated steam to cook meats and vegetables rapidly. To ensure safety, they are heavily marketed with advanced “safety lid locks” that are supposed to make it mechanically impossible to open the unit while it is still under pressure.

Unfortunately, many models possess severe design and manufacturing defects. Faulty float valves, weak plastic locking pins, and decomposing silicone gaskets frequently malfunction. This can allow an unsuspecting user to twist the lid open while the contents are still under intense pressure. The result can be a catastrophic explosion that sprays 250-degree boiling liquids, greases, and food directly onto the user’s face, neck, arms, and torso.

Because these thick, starchy liquids adhere instantly to human skin, they can cause agonizing second and third-degree thermal scald burns. This type of severe trauma often requires immediate admission to a specialized burn unit for debridement procedures and invasive skin graft surgeries. Our firm has extensively litigated these specific claims, serving as lead counsel in consolidated federal pressure cooker litigation.

2. Heated Clothing (Socks, Jackets, and Underwear)

The integration of micro-heating elements and lithium-ion batteries directly into winter apparel has created a booming market for outdoor enthusiasts, skiers, and laborers. You can easily find battery-powered heated socks, heated jackets, heated vests, and even heated thermal underwear online. However, placing electrical currents and heating coils directly against human skin often introduces severe burn risks if the garment is poorly engineered.

When internal thermostats fail to regulate the temperature, or when the delicate micro-wires flex, snap, and arc from ordinary physical movement, the fabric can rapidly reach scorching temperatures. This can melt synthetic fabrics directly into the wearer’s flesh or ignite the insulation material entirely. Our product liability lawyers have handled many heated clothing burn claims.

Heated Socks & Insoles: Exposure to natural foot sweat or melting snow can cause the micro-coils to short-circuit. Because these are worn tightly inside heavy, restrictive boots, victims often cannot remove the garment fast enough to prevent deep, localized third-degree tissue damage.

Heated Jackets & Vests: The lithium-ion battery packs are usually housed in close proximity to the wearer’s vital organs. Physical impact or an overcharge short-circuit can cause the battery to burst into chemical flames, causing catastrophic torso burns.

Heated Underwear: Because these garments are worn as a base layer directly against bare skin, a thermal runaway event or electrical short can cause massive, deeply painful contact burns across sensitive areas before the user can disrobe.

3. Lithium-Ion Power Banks and Replacement Batteries

Portable USB power banks and cheap, uncertified replacement batteries for smartphones, laptops, and power tools are among the most frequently recalled items on digital storefronts. To keep prices low, many third-party sellers source batteries that lack an integrated Battery Management System (BMS) to safely cut off power once the cells reach maximum capacity.

When these unstable lithium-ion batteries are overcharged, exposed to slightly elevated ambient temperatures, or drop-damaged, the internal separators between the cells can fail. This could trigger a self-sustaining, chemical chain reaction known as thermal runaway. The battery can violently explode or spray intense chemical flames that burn at temperatures exceeding 1,000°F.

If a power bank explodes while stored in a pocket or purse, it can cause severe chemical and thermal burns to the thighs or hands. When these devices ignite while charging unattended overnight on a nightstand or sofa, they can cause fast-moving house fires, catastrophic property destruction, toxic smoke inhalation, and fatal injuries.

4. Massage Guns with Integrated Batteries

Percussive massage guns have become highly popular self-care tools for athlete recovery and chronic pain relief. To drive the heavy mechanical motors required for high-intensity deep tissue massage, these portable devices rely on high-capacity lithium-ion battery configurations built into the handle.

Because these tools generate significant internal heat and vibrations during normal operation, the structural integrity of the internal battery compartment is critical. If the internal wiring becomes loose due to constant percussive shaking, or if the manufacturer utilizes low-grade electronic cells, the device can severely overheat while plugged into a wall charger or even while actively pressed against a user’s muscles.

We can investigate personal injury claims where massage guns have melted their outer plastic housing, severely burned users’ hands and legs, or spontaneously ignited blankets and upholstery while left charging unattended on furniture.

5. Single-Serve Coffee Makers and K-Cup Brewers

Single-serve coffee brewers and express espresso machines function by forcing superheated water under intense pressure through a small plastic pod or grounds filter. This rapid heating mechanism typically requires precise pressure relief pathways to keep the machine stable during operation.

If the internal puncture needle becomes misaligned or clogged by loose coffee grounds, or if the brewer features a defective pressure release valve, the water pressure inside the main brewing chamber can skyrocket well beyond safe limits. When the user attempts to lift the handle to remove the pod, the built-up pressure can violently explode outward.

This structural failure could blast a high-velocity spray of boiling water, scalding steam, and hot coffee grounds directly into the user’s face. These incidents could lead to painful facial blistering, severe eye burns, and permanent vision impairment if the scalding particles strike the eyes directly.

6. Electric Heated Blankets and Heating Pads

Electric blankets and targeted heating pads provide vital comfort for individuals suffering from chronic back pain, arthritis, or winter cold. Because these products are designed to be draped directly over a person’s body, often while they are completely asleep, resting, or physically immobilized, their safety margins should be flawless.

Defective heating blankets often suffer from poor internal insulation around the flexible electrical wires. Over time, ordinary folding, stretching, or rolling can wear down this insulation, causing bare wires to make direct contact with each other or the fabric. This can result in an immediate electrical short-circuit or an unmitigated “hot spot.”

Because the victim may be fast asleep or have reduced skin sensitivity (such as elderly individuals or those suffering from diabetic neuropathy), they may not realize they are being burned until the device has caused deep, full-thickness third-degree burns. In worst-case scenarios, short-circuiting coils can ignite bedding materials, triggering an immediate and deadly residential fire.

7. Telescoping and Extension Ladders

Space-saving telescoping ladders and heavy-duty aluminum extension ladders are heavily purchased online by homeowners and contractors alike. These products are engineered to lock into place dynamically, section by section, allowing users to safely ascend to roofs, high ceilings, and gutters.

When a ladder is manufactured with cheap metal alloys, weak locking hinges, or defective safety pins, its structural integrity can be completely compromised. If the locking mechanisms unexpectedly release or the metal rungs buckle under a normal weight load, the ladder can instantly collapse downward or pitch violently sideways.

A fall from a ladder can cause permanent, life-altering physical trauma. Victims of ladder collapses frequently suffer from shattered ankles, compound leg fractures, broken wrists, spinal cord compression injuries, herniated discs, and severe traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) from striking concrete surfaces.

8. Defective Children’s Toys and Nursery Goods

Parents trust that any product marketed for children has undergone extensive safety screening. Unfortunately, unverified online storefronts often flood the marketplace with cheaply assembled children’s toys, baby strollers, crib accessories, and interactive games that contain severe manufacturing hazards.

Common product failures in defective children’s toys include:

High-Powered Magnets: Toys containing small, poorly secured rare-earth magnets are incredibly dangerous. If a child swallows more than one magnet, they can attract each other through the intestinal walls, causing severe perforations, internal bleeding, blood poisoning, and life-threatening medical emergencies.

Choking & Shard Hazards: Toys made with cheap, brittle plastics can easily shatter into sharp shards under normal play conditions. Small detaching components can instantly block a child’s airway.

Button Battery Exposure: If a toy’s battery compartment lacks a secure screw lock, a child can easily access and swallow the small lithium button batteries. Once inside the esophagus, the battery can leak corrosive acid, causing fatal internal chemical burns within hours. Batteries can also explode, causing chemical and fire burns.

9. Hoverboards, E-bikes and Electric Scooters

Electric scooters, E-bikes, hoverboards, and self-balancing unicycles (like Onewheels) rely entirely on complex software, gyroscopic sensors, and powerful electric motors to keep a rider safely balanced upright on two wheels. If any part of this internal ecosystem fails while traveling at high speeds, the user likely has zero control.

Defective micro-mobility devices are prone to sudden electronic cutouts. If the gyroscope misinterprets a bump or the battery software triggers an unexpected shutdown to prevent overheating, the motor can abruptly stop or engage in a violent “nosedive.” The rider can be instantly thrown over the handlebars or pitched face-first onto the asphalt at 15 to 20 miles per hour.

These severe falls can result in complex orthopedic trauma, torn knee ligaments, broken collarbones, facial fractures, and severe concussions, particularly if the safety gear or helmet also fails to handle the impact properly.

Understanding Your Legal Rights Under Florida Product Liability Law

If you or a loved one was injured by a dangerous or defective product purchased on Amazon, the legal framework surrounding your recovery is typically entirely different from a standard negligence claim. Under the doctrine of Strict Product Liability, you do not have to prove that the manufacturer or retailer was intentionally careless. You typically only need to prove that:

The product possessed an inherent defect (in its design, its manufacturing process, or its marketing and lack of safety warnings).

You were operating the product in a reasonably foreseeable manner.

The defect was the direct and proximate cause of your physical injuries or property damages.

Holding Online Marketplaces Accountable

Historically, online platforms have tried to escape liability by claiming they are merely an online “bulletin board” connecting consumers with third-party sellers, many of whom are located overseas and are completely immune to American court jurisdictions. However, product liability case law has rapidly evolved. Courts across the nation are increasingly ruling that when an e-commerce platform stores, packs, ships, or directly profits from distributing a dangerous item through programs like “Fulfilled by Amazon,” they are an active participant in the chain of distribution and can be held civilly liable for the resulting damages.

The Strict Two-Year Statute of Limitations

Time is often a critical factor following a consumer product injury. In Florida, the statute of limitations enforces a strict two-year deadline from the exact date of the incident to file a formal product liability or personal injury lawsuit.

Types of Compensation We Can Pursue for Injured Consumers

Our primary objective is to hold negligent corporations accountable and secure maximum financial recovery to help your family rebuild. In a successful product liability action, we can pursue compensation for:

Past and Future Medical Expenses: Covering emergency room visits, specialized burn care, surgeries, physical therapy, skin grafts, and long-term diagnostic testing.

Lost Wages & Loss of Future Earning Capacity: Replacing the income you lost while hospitalized or recovering, and securing funds if your injuries permanently restrict your ability to work.

Pain and Suffering: Financial compensation for the immense physical agony, emotional trauma, and mental anguish accompanying severe injuries and medical procedures.

Permanent Disfigurement and Scarring: Specifically pursued for victims of severe appliance explosions, burns or battery fires that leave lifelong visible marks.

Property Damage: Recovering the costs to repair or replace your home, furniture, or personal electronics destroyed during a battery fire or product explosion.

Do not throw it away, do not attempt to fix or clean it, and do NOT send it back to the seller or manufacturer for a refund. The physical item can sometimes be the most critical piece of evidence in your entire lawsuit. Store it safely along with all cords, charging blocks, packaging material, and instruction manuals, and contact our firm immediately in case engineers need to inspect it.

Can I still file a lawsuit if I accidentally deleted my online purchase receipt?
Yes. While a receipt is helpful, we can often establish the chain of distribution through other digital methods. Under strict product liability frameworks, you may not need to successfully serve an uncooperative company overseas to find relief. A public recall by the Consumer Product Safety Commission is NOT a prerequisite to filing a lawsuit. In fact, many major safety recalls are only initiated after personal injury lawyers like us compile evidence, file lawsuits, and expose hidden design defects during the formal discovery process. If a product was unreasonably dangerous and hurt you during ordinary use, you could have a valid claim.

How much does it cost to file a product liability claim with your firm?
It costs you absolutely nothing upfront.
Legal Options After Serious Burn Injuries From Pressure Cookers

Manufacturers design pressure cookers as kitchen appliances that cook food quickly by trapping heat and steam inside a sealed container. When these appliances function properly, they can be safe and convenient. However, when safety mechanisms fail, pressure cookers can release extremely hot liquid and steam, causing severe burns. Our product liability lawyers have handled several Gourmia burn injury cases already.

Safety officials have warned consumers to immediately stop using certain pressure cookers manufactured by Gourmia after reports of multiple burn injuries. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the appliances may present a serious hazard because the lid can open while the cooker is still pressurized, allowing hot contents to erupt outward.

If you or a loved one suffered burns while using a Gourmia pressure cooker, you may have legal options under product liability law. At the Law Offices of Jason Turchin, we represent individuals nationwide who were injured by defective consumer products, including malfunctioning kitchen appliances.

CPSC Warning About Gourmia Pressure Cookers

The CPSC issued a public safety warning advising consumers to stop using certain Gourmia pressure cookers immediately due to the risk that the lid can be opened while the appliance remains pressurized.

According to the safety notice:

Multiple burn injuries have been reported

The lid may unlock while the cooker is still pressurized

Hot food, liquid, and steam can suddenly escape

Many of the affected units were sold at Best Buy

When a pressure cooker opens while still under pressure, the release of steam and superheated liquid can cause catastrophic injuries within seconds.

Why Pressure Cooker Failures Are So Dangerous

Pressure cookers operate by sealing steam inside a pot to raise cooking temperatures above the boiling point of water. While this speeds up cooking, it also creates extremely high internal pressure.

If safety mechanisms fail, several dangerous outcomes may occur:

The lid can detach violently

Steam may erupt outward

Hot liquids can splash onto nearby users

Boiling contents may be ejected across the kitchen

These incidents frequently occur during normal cooking, when consumers believe the appliance is safe to open.

Second-degree burns causing blistering and intense pain

Third-degree burns involving deep tissue damage

Facial burns and eye injuries

Permanent scarring or disfigurement

Nerve damage requiring long-term treatment

Many victims require emergency care, hospitalization, and in some cases reconstructive surgery or skin grafts.

Product Liability Law and Pressure Cooker Injuries

Burn injury lawsuits involving pressure cookers are often brought under product liability law, which can hold manufacturers responsible when a product is unreasonably dangerous.

Legal claims may involve:

1. Design Defect

Allegations that the cooker’s lid-locking or pressure-release system allows the appliance to open while still pressurized.

2. Manufacturing Defect

Claims that a specific unit malfunctioned due to errors in production or assembly.

3. Failure to Warn

If warnings and instructions did not adequately explain the risks associated with pressure cooking.

Manufacturers are generally expected to design appliances that prevent consumers from opening the lid while pressure remains inside.

Steam erupting from the cooker while removing the lid

Hot soup or liquid spraying onto the user’s face or hands

A pressure valve failing to release steam properly

Burns occurring despite following manufacturer instructions

These incidents may involve detailed engineering analysis and review of product safety features.

Slow cookers, commonly sold under brand names like Crock-Pot, are a staple in many kitchens. They are marketed as convenient, low-risk appliances designed to cook food safely over long periods of time, and because of this “set it and forget it” reputation, many consumers place a high level of trust in these products.

However, lawsuits and injury reports have raised concerns about serious burn injuries allegedly linked to Crock-Pot and similar slow cookers, including incidents involving hot contents escaping, lids shifting, or appliances failing during normal use. Some claims have drawn comparisons to pressure cooker injuries, where superheated contents unexpectedly cause severe burns.

If you or a loved one suffered burns while using a Crock-Pot or similar slow cooker, this information may help you understand the risks, the nature of these lawsuits, and potential legal options.

According to reports, consumers have filed lawsuits alleging that certain Crock-Pot and slow cooker designs may pose a risk of serious burns when hot liquids or food escape the appliance unexpectedly. Unlike pressure cookers, multi cookers are not supposed to operate under high pressure, which is why these incidents can be especially alarming for users.

The lawsuits generally allege that:

Hot contents spilled or erupted during normal use

Lids failed to stay securely in place

Appliances became excessively hot

Users were not adequately warned of burn risks

Some cases involve severe scalding injuries to the hands, arms, torso, or face.

Why Burn Injuries From Multi-Cookers Can Be Severe

Multi-cookers may not look dangerous, but they are designed to maintain very high temperatures for extended periods. Liquids inside can remain near boiling temperatures for hours.

When something goes wrong, the resulting burns may involve:

Boiling liquids

Hot grease or oils

Steam burns

Prolonged contact with hot surfaces

Because multi-cookers are often used at countertop height, burns frequently affect the upper body.

How Crock-Pot Burn Injuries May Occur

Reported incidents and lawsuits suggest several ways injuries may happen, including:

Lid movement or instability, allowing hot contents to spill

Defective or poorly fitting lids

Overheating beyond expected temperatures

Design features that allow tipping or sloshing

Lack of adequate warnings about temperature or handling risks

In many claims, users allege they were following instructions and using the appliance as intended.

Realistic Burn Injury Scenarios

Scenario 1: Countertop Spill

Scenario 2: Lid Shift

The lid shifts unexpectedly while cooking, allowing hot contents to escape and splash onto the user.

Scenario 3: Appliance Handling

A user attempts to move or adjust the cooker and suffers burns due to excessive heat or instability.

Scenario 4: Family Member Nearby

A child or other family member is burned when hot contents spill or the appliance tips.

These scenarios reflect allegations commonly raised in slow cooker burn lawsuits.

Do These Lawsuits Mean Crock-Pots Are Unsafe?

Not necessarily. Lawsuits typically focus on specific designs, models, or alleged defects, not every multi-cooker on the market. However, recurring claims raise questions about whether certain products were designed with sufficient safeguards to prevent foreseeable injuries.

Consumers often rely on the assumption that slow cookers pose minimal burn risks compared to other kitchen appliances, which can influence how cautiously they handle them.

Product Liability Claims Involving Burn Injuries

Crock-Pot burn injury lawsuits are typically brought under product liability law. These claims may allege:

Design defects, where the product’s design creates an unreasonable risk

Manufacturing defects, where a particular unit deviates from its intended design

Failure to warn, where instructions or warnings do not adequately describe risks

The focus is often on whether the product was reasonably safe for its intended use.

Who May Be Responsible

Depending on the facts, responsibility may involve:

The manufacturer of the slow cooker

Companies involved in design or testing

Component suppliers

Distributors or retailers

Liability may extend beyond the brand name on the appliance.

Does a Lawsuit or Recall Automatically Provide Compensation?

No. Lawsuits and recalls do not automatically compensate injured consumers; instead, they typically require individuals to take additional steps to seek compensation. Compensation for injuries is typically pursued through:

Individual product liability claims

Settlements or verdicts in court

Pressure cookers are marketed as convenient kitchen appliances designed to cook food faster using heat and pressure. Many consumers rely on them daily, trusting that built-in safety features will prevent dangerous failures. When those safety mechanisms fail, however, pressure cookers can explode with enough force to cause severe burn injuries, permanent scarring, and long-term trauma.

A recently filed lawsuit reported by Daily Hornet describes a man who suffered serious burns after a pressure cooker allegedly exploded during normal use. The case draws renewed attention to the risks associated with defective pressure cookers and the injuries that may occur when lids, seals, or pressure-release systems malfunction.

If you or a loved one were burned by a pressure cooker explosion, this lawsuit may raise important questions about your legal rights and whether compensation may be available.

What the Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Alleges

According to the report, the lawsuit was filed by a consumer who claims he was severely burned when a pressure cooker unexpectedly exploded, releasing scalding contents outward. The complaint alleges that the appliance failed to operate safely despite being used as intended.

While the lawsuit details focus on one individual, similar claims have been filed nationwide over the years involving pressure cookers that allegedly:

Exploded while under pressure

Opened prematurely

Released superheated contents without warning

Failed to lock properly

Had defective pressure-release systems

These allegations are not new, but each new lawsuit reinforces concerns about whether certain pressure cookers are designed or manufactured safely for home use.

Why Pressure Cooker Explosions Are So Dangerous

Pressure cookers operate by trapping steam to raise internal pressure, which increases cooking temperature. When that pressure is not properly contained or released, the results can be catastrophic.

When a pressure cooker fails, it may:

Forcefully eject boiling food and liquid

Blow the lid off the appliance

Release steam at extremely high temperatures

Cause the cooker to rupture

Because pressure cookers are often used at countertop height, explosions can strike users directly in the face, chest, arms, and torso.

Common Causes Alleged in Pressure Cooker Explosion Cases

Although each case is unique, pressure cooker lawsuits often focus on similar alleged defects, including:

Faulty lid-locking mechanisms that allow the cooker to open while pressurized

Defective gaskets or seals that fail to contain pressure

Malfunctioning pressure-release valves

Inadequate warning labels or instructions

Design flaws that allow pressure to build unsafely

Consumers frequently report that they followed the instructions, yet the cooker still exploded or released contents unexpectedly.

Why Pressure Cookers Can Be Dangerous

Pressure cookers use steam and high pressure to cook food quickly. If the safety mechanisms fail, the lid can fly off or hot food and liquid can be ejected, causing second- or third-degree burns. In many cases, victims were using the product exactly as instructed when the explosion occurred.

Common defects in pressure cookers include:

Lid locks that fail under pressure

Seals or gaskets that deteriorate too quickly

Malfunctioning pressure release valves

Electrical failures in electric models

Brands Named in Pressure Cooker Lawsuits

Our firm has handled cases involving a wide range of pressure cooker brands, and can handle claims against most brands including:

Gourmia

Tristar

Maxi-Matic Elite

New models are added to the list regularly. If you were injured by any pressure cooker, reach out to see if a claim is available for your specific brand and model.

Injuries Commonly Reported in Pressure Cooker Explosions

Scarring and disfigurement

Infections and hospitalizations

Nerve damage or limited mobility

The recall was prompted by a dangerous defect that allows the pressure-cooking lid to open while the unit is still pressurized, causing hot contents to be forcefully ejected and posing a severe burn hazard.

Common Pressure Cooker Defects That Cause Injuries

Pressure cookers operate by trapping steam under high pressure to cook food. When any component of the device malfunctions, it can cause dangerous explosions or sudden releases of steam, leading to severe burns and other injuries. Common defects include:

Faulty Seals or Lids: Defective gaskets or seals can cause the lid to unexpectedly open, releasing scalding steam or hot food.

Defective Pressure Release Valves: Pressure release valves are designed to regulate internal pressure. If they fail, the pressure cooker can explode.

Improper Safety Locks: Many pressure cookers come with safety features to prevent the lid from being opened when pressure remains inside. If the safety lock fails, the user can suffer serious burns.

Electrical Malfunctions: Defective electric pressure cookers can overheat or short-circuit, causing fires or explosions.

Design Flaws: Poorly designed pressure cookers may have weak components prone to failure under normal use.

Types of Injuries Caused by Pressure Cooker Explosions

Pressure cooker accidents can cause severe and life-altering injuries, including:

Second- and Third-Degree Burns: These burns can result from scalding steam, boiling liquids, or hot food spilling onto the skin.

Lacerations and Scarring: Exploding parts can lead to deep cuts and long-term scarring.

Eye Injuries: High-pressure steam and debris can cause serious eye damage or even blindness.

Traumatic Injuries: In rare cases, explosions may cause blunt-force trauma or broken bones.

Burn injuries often require extensive medical treatment, including surgeries, skin grafts, and long-term rehabilitation. Victims may also suffer from significant emotional trauma and scarring.

Every day, we use a variety of products, from household appliances to personal electronics. But what happens when one of these products causes harm?
Keep records of your medical visits, treatments, and any diagnoses. These documents can be vital if you pursue a legal claim.

2. Preserve the Product and Evidence

Do not throw away the product that caused the injury. If possible, try to keep it in the same condition as it was after the incident.

4. Report the Incident

Report the injury to the manufacturer or retailer of the product. This can often be done via their customer service department.

Do not return the product to the store or manufacturer without speaking with your product liability lawyer as they may try to dispose of the evidence.

5. Be Cautious with Early Settlement Offers

Be wary of early settlement offers from manufacturers or insurance companies. Consult with a legal professional before accepting any offers, as they may not fully cover your long-term needs or losses.

7. Understand the Legal Grounds for Claims

Product liability claims can be based on defects in design, manufacturing, or inadequate warnings/instructions. Your attorney can help identify the specific basis for your claim.
In recent news, Sensio Inc. has issued a recall for their Bella, Bella Pro Series Cooks, and Crux Electric and Stovetop Pressure Cookers due to a significant burn hazard. This recall, announced on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website, highlights the importance of consumer safety and the legal rights of individuals who may have been affected by such products.

The CPSC is a governmental body that ensures the safety of consumer products. When a potentially dangerous product is identified, it is the CPSC’s duty to inform the public and ensure that necessary measures are taken to prevent harm. The recent recall involves certain models of Sensio’s pressure cookers, which have been found to pose a risk of burns to users. This is due to a malfunction that can cause the lid to detach during use, potentially leading to severe injuries.

If you or a loved one has been injured due to a malfunctioning Sensio pressure cooker, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. It’s crucial to understand your rights and the legal avenues available to you in such situations. Personal injury claims can be complex, but with the right legal representation, you can navigate the process successfully and secure the justice you deserve.

Our law firm is dedicated to representing individuals who have been harmed by defective products. Our experienced team of personal injury lawyers is well-versed in product liability law and has a proven track record of success in representing clients in claims against large corporations. We believe in holding negligent manufacturers accountable for the safety and well-being of consumers.

What is Product Liability?

Product liability refers to the legal responsibility imposed on manufacturers, distributors, and sellers for producing or selling a defective product that causes injury or harm to consumers. There are three primary types of product liability claims: design defects, manufacturing defects, and failure to warn. Design defects occur when there is an inherent flaw in the design of the product, making it inherently dangerous. Manufacturing defects happen when a product deviates from its intended design during the production process, resulting in a faulty item. Failure to warn, also known as marketing defects, involves inadequate instructions or warnings regarding the safe use of the product. For a successful product liability claim, several elements may need to be established: the product was defective, the defect existed prior to the manufacturer releasing the product or manifested during the useful life of the product, and the defect caused the plaintiff’s injuries. Through product liability law, consumers have a means to seek compensation for damages incurred due to defective products, and it also serves as a mechanism to ensure higher standards of product safety in the market.
