Florida Pressure Cooker Lawyers

Pressure cookers are designed to cook food using high temperatures and pressure. When the lid, locking system, pressure release mechanism, gasket, sensor, or another safety component allegedly fails, the consequences can be devastating. Scalding liquid, steam, and food may be forcefully expelled from the cooker, potentially causing second-degree burns, third-degree burns, permanent scarring, skin graft injuries, and other serious harm.

The Florida pressure cooker lawyers at the Law Offices of Jason Turchin represent people who have suffered burn injuries involving allegedly defective pressure cookers and multi-cookers. We’ve handled hundreds of pressure burn injury claims. Our firm handles pressure cooker lawsuits involving products sold by major retailers and manufacturers throughout Florida and the United States.

Pressure cooker safety has received significant attention from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Recent recalls have involved approximately 1.8 million Ninja Foodi pressure cookers, 930,000 Insignia pressure cookers, 860,000 Bella, Bella Pro Series, Cooks and Crux pressure cookers, approximately 914,000 Crock-Pot Express multi-cookers, and other products.

Some recalls have involved the same fundamental danger alleged in many pressure cooker burn lawsuits: a lid that can be opened or detach while dangerous pressure remains inside the cooker.

If you were burned by a pressure cooker, do not throw the cooker away. Preserve the cooker, lid, gasket, valves, inner pot, packaging, instructions, purchase information, and any components that separated from the appliance. The pressure cooker itself may become critical evidence.

Call 800-337-7755 or contact the Law Offices of Jason Turchin online for a free consultation. Pressure cooker injury cases are handled on a contingency fee basis, which means there are no fees or costs owed to our firm unless there is a recovery.

Pressure Cooker Lawsuits and Recalls

Pressure cooker injuries are not limited to one manufacturer or one model. Lawsuits and government recalls have involved a number of pressure cooker and multi-cooker brands.

Florida Pressure Cooker Lawyers

Depending on the particular product, allegations and reported safety issues have involved lids opening during use, lids detaching, pressure remaining in a cooker when a user attempts to open it, inaccurate markings, locking-system problems, and hot food or liquid being expelled under pressure.

Among the brands and products that have been involved in recalls, lawsuits, or reported pressure cooker safety allegations are:

  • Ninja Foodi
  • Insignia
  • Bella
  • Bella Pro Series
  • Crux
  • Cooks
  • Crock-Pot Express
  • Ambiano
  • Instant Pot
  • Power Pressure Cooker XL
  • Other electric and stovetop pressure cookers

Being named in a lawsuit, receiving a negative consumer review, or even having another model recalled does not establish that every cooker sold under a brand is defective. Each potential claim should be evaluated based on the specific model, accident, condition of the cooker, available evidence, and applicable law.

Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker Recall and Lawsuits

One of the most significant recent pressure cooker recalls involves the Ninja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers.

On May 1, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of approximately 1,846,400 Ninja Foodi OP300 Series pressure cookers in the United States.

According to the CPSC, the pressure-cooking lid could be opened during use, allowing hot contents to escape and creating a burn risk.

The recalled models include:

  • OP300
  • OP301
  • OP301A
  • OP302
  • OP302BRN
  • OP302HCN
  • OP302HAQ
  • OP302HW
  • OP302HB
  • OP305
  • OP305CO
  • OP350CO

The CPSC reported that SharkNinja had received 106 reports of burn injuries, including more than 50 reports of second- or third-degree burns to the face or body. The agency also reported that 26 lawsuits had been filed at the time of the recall announcement.

The recalled pressure cookers were sold at Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club, Amazon, Target, Ninja’s website, and other online retail sites between January 2019 and March 2025.

Consumers can review the official CPSC Ninja Foodi pressure cooker recall for current recall information.

Florida Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker Lawsuits

Florida has also been the site of litigation involving alleged Ninja Foodi pressure cooker injuries.

In one federal lawsuit filed in the Middle District of Florida in 2024, a Jacksonville Beach plaintiff alleged that she suffered severe burn injuries when the lid of a Ninja Foodi pressure cooker unexpectedly separated and hot contents were expelled from the cooker. The allegations in a lawsuit are claims by the plaintiff and do not by themselves establish liability.

Cases like these illustrate why the actual cooker, model number, lid, safety mechanisms, medical records, photographs, and accident circumstances can become important evidence.

Insignia Pressure Cooker Recall

Best Buy recalled approximately 930,000 Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers after a problem was identified involving the markings inside the cooking pot.

According to the CPSC, incorrect markings on the inner pot could cause a consumer to overfill it. Hot food and liquids could then potentially be ejected when the cooker was vented using the quick-release method or opened while the contents remained pressurized.

The recall involved pressure cookers with model numbers:

  • NS-MC60SS8
  • NS-MC60SS9
  • NS-MC80SS9

It also involved certain replacement inner pots.

The CPSC reported 31 incidents involving contents expelled under pressure and 17 reported burn injuries, some involving reports of second-degree and severe burns.

The products were sold through Best Buy stores, BestBuy.com, and Amazon from October 2017 through June 2023.

Consumers can review the official CPSC Insignia pressure cooker recall.

Bella, Bella Pro Series, Cooks and Crux Pressure Cooker Recall

In August 2023, the CPSC announced a recall involving approximately 860,000 pressure cookers associated with Sensio.

The recall included certain:

  • Bella electric pressure cookers
  • Bella Pro Series electric pressure cookers
  • Crux electric pressure cookers
  • Cooks electric pressure cookers
  • Bella stovetop pressure cookers

According to the CPSC, the pressure cooker lid could unlock and be removed during use, potentially causing hot contents to unexpectedly splash out and creating a burn hazard.

The affected products included various 6-quart, 8-quart and 10-quart electric pressure cookers and certain 5-quart, 8-quart and 12-quart stovetop pressure cookers.

Consumers should compare the model or item number on their particular cooker against the models listed in the official CPSC Bella, Bella Pro, Cooks and Crux recall.

Crock-Pot Express Pressure Cooker Recall

In November 2020, Sunbeam Products recalled approximately 914,430 Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers in the United States, with additional units sold in Canada.

The recall involved model SCCPPC600-V1 within specified manufacturing date codes.

According to the CPSC, the recalled multi-cooker could pressurize when the lid was not completely locked. The lid could then suddenly detach while the cooker was in use, potentially ejecting hot food and liquids.

The reported incident numbers were substantial. The CPSC stated that Sunbeam had received 119 reports of lid detachment and 99 reported burn injuries, ranging from first-degree through third-degree burns.

The products had been sold at Walmart, Target, Amazon, and other retailers.

Consumers can review the official CPSC Crock-Pot Express recall.

Ambiano Pressure Cooker Recall

In October 2025, approximately 46,660 Ambiano electric pressure cookers sold at ALDI were recalled.

The recall involved model numbers:

  • 93550 (KY-318B)
  • 96775 (KY-318A)
  • 98527 (6L-PC)

According to the CPSC, the pressure cooker lid could be opened before sufficient steam pressure had been released, allowing hot contents to escape.

The CPSC reported 11 incidents in which contents were expelled under pressure, including eight reports of severe burn injuries.

Consumers can review the official CPSC Ambiano pressure cooker recall.

Instant Pot Pressure Cooker Lawsuits

Instant Pot products have also been the subject of product liability lawsuits involving alleged burn injuries.

Some plaintiffs have alleged that particular Instant Pot models could be opened while pressure remained inside, despite safety systems intended to prevent the lid from opening under pressure.

For example, litigation filed in federal court in 2026 alleged that an Instant Pot Duo pressure cooker could be rotated and opened while pressurized, causing scalding contents to be forcefully expelled. Other litigation has examined pressure-based locking systems and whether a cooker remained under pressure when its lid was removed.

These are allegations in individual lawsuits. They should not be interpreted to mean that every Instant Pot is defective or that every reported accident was caused by the same mechanism.

What Do Amazon Reviews and Consumer Complaints Tell Us?

Consumers frequently research appliances on Amazon and other retail websites before and after an accident. Online reviews for pressure cookers can include complaints about pressure problems, difficulty sealing, error messages, steam release, lids, valves, electronics, and other operational issues.

Negative Amazon reviews can sometimes become relevant to a product liability investigation, particularly when consumers describe a problem similar to the one involved in an accident.

However, an online review is not proof that a product is defective.

Reviews can be unverified, incomplete, involve different models, describe user error, or omit important circumstances. Positive reviews may also substantially outnumber negative reviews for the same product.

For a pressure cooker lawsuit, the more important questions may include:

  • Were consumers reporting substantially similar incidents?
  • Were those reports made before the plaintiff’s accident?
  • Did the reports involve the same model or substantially similar design?
  • Were complaints sent directly to the manufacturer or retailer?
  • Did the manufacturer investigate similar incidents?
  • Were design changes made after earlier versions of the cooker?
  • Were warnings or instructions changed?
  • Was the product eventually recalled?
  • What did the manufacturer know, and when did it know it?

Amazon reviews, retailer reviews, warranty claims, customer service records, consumer complaints, CPSC reports, prior lawsuits, and internal manufacturer documents can therefore potentially become pieces of a much larger evidentiary picture.

Does a Pressure Cooker Have to Be Recalled for You to Have a Case?

No. A government recall is not necessarily required for a product liability claim.

A person may potentially have a claim involving a product that has never been recalled if the evidence supports that the particular product was defective and caused an injury.

Likewise, owning a recalled pressure cooker does not automatically mean that someone has a personal injury claim. A product liability injury case generally requires an actual injury and evidence connecting the alleged defect to that injury.

A recall can nevertheless be highly relevant to an investigation, particularly if it addresses the same model and same alleged failure involved in an accident.

Why Do Pressure Cooker Lids Cause Such Serious Injuries?

A pressure cooker can contain extremely hot food, liquid, and steam under pressure. If the lid is unexpectedly removed or separates while sufficient pressure remains inside, the release can be rapid.

Instead of a small spill, hot contents may be propelled toward the user’s face, chest, abdomen, arms, or legs.

This is why lid-locking and pressure-control systems are so important. Modern pressure cookers may contain several safety mechanisms intended to prevent opening while pressurized.

A pressure cooker injury investigation may examine:

  • The lid-locking mechanism
  • Float valves
  • Pressure release valves
  • Pressure sensors
  • Gaskets and seals
  • Interlocks
  • Electronic controls
  • Pressure indicators
  • Inner pot markings
  • Warnings and instructions

Florida Pressure Cooker Design Defect Claims

A pressure cooker injury may potentially involve a design defect claim when the design of the product allegedly creates an unreasonable danger.

One issue in pressure cooker litigation has been whether a lid-locking mechanism adequately prevents the user from opening the cooker while dangerous pressure remains inside.

Other potential design issues could involve pressure release systems, sensors, valves, gaskets, controls, or other safety mechanisms.

The fact that an accident occurred does not by itself establish a design defect. Product liability cases can require engineering analysis, testing, expert testimony, product documentation, and evaluation of alternative designs.

Pressure Cooker Manufacturing Defect Claims

Another potential claim involves a manufacturing defect. In this type of case, the allegation may be that a particular cooker or component departed from its intended design because of a problem during manufacturing or assembly.

Potential examples could involve an improperly assembled locking mechanism, defective sensor, damaged gasket, incorrectly installed component, or other manufacturing problem.

Preserving the actual pressure cooker can be particularly important if a manufacturing defect is suspected.

Failure to Warn Claims

A product liability case may also involve allegations concerning warnings or instructions.

An investigation may examine the owner’s manual, labels on the cooker, pressure release instructions, warnings about opening the lid, online materials, instructional videos, and whether warnings changed over time.

The legal significance of a warning depends on the facts, including the nature of the danger, what the manufacturer knew or should have known, the warnings actually provided, and whether a different warning could have affected the accident.

Who Can Be Responsible for a Defective Pressure Cooker?

Depending on the circumstances and Florida law, potential defendants in a pressure cooker case may include companies involved in the product’s design, manufacture, importation, distribution, or sale.

Potential parties may include:

  • The pressure cooker manufacturer
  • A component manufacturer
  • The product designer
  • An importer
  • A distributor
  • A retailer
  • Other potentially responsible entities in the distribution chain

Some pressure cookers are manufactured overseas and sold under another company’s brand name. Determining the companies involved can therefore require investigation of product labels, corporate records, import information, purchase records, and the distribution chain.

What Injuries Can a Pressure Cooker Cause?

Pressure cooker accidents can cause serious thermal injuries because the victim may be struck by boiling liquid, hot food, and steam.

Potential injuries include:

  • First-degree burns
  • Second-degree burns
  • Third-degree burns
  • Facial burns
  • Burns to the chest and abdomen
  • Arm and hand burns
  • Leg and foot burns
  • Eye injuries
  • Scarring
  • Disfigurement
  • Nerve damage
  • Infection
  • Skin graft injuries
  • Psychological trauma

Serious burns may require emergency treatment, hospitalization, wound debridement, skin grafting, reconstructive procedures, physical therapy, scar treatment, and long-term medical care.

What Should I Do After a Pressure Cooker Explosion?

After obtaining appropriate medical care, preserving evidence can be one of the most important things an injured consumer does.

  1. Keep the pressure cooker. Do not throw it away.
  2. Do not return it to the manufacturer or retailer without considering the evidentiary consequences.
  3. Preserve the lid. Keep the lid in the condition it was in after the incident.
  4. Save every component. This may include the gasket, valves, inner pot, cord, accessories, and any pieces that detached.
  5. Do not attempt to use the cooker again.
  6. Photograph the product and scene.
  7. Photograph your burns as they heal.
  8. Save the box and instructions.
  9. Preserve receipts or online order records.
  10. Write down the model and serial number.
  11. Save communications with the manufacturer or retailer.
  12. Consider speaking with a product liability lawyer before allowing anyone to inspect or take possession of the cooker.

Should I Send My Pressure Cooker Back Under a Recall?

If the pressure cooker has already injured you, consider obtaining legal advice before surrendering, destroying, modifying, or returning the appliance.

A recall remedy may instruct consumers to return a product, replace a component, cut a power cord, or take another step. Those instructions are designed for consumer safety and administration of the recall.

An appliance involved in an injury, however, may also be physical evidence in a potential lawsuit.

The appropriate course can depend on the circumstances. Do not continue using a recalled cooker merely to preserve evidence. Instead, store it safely and consider obtaining advice about how the product can be preserved without creating another hazard.

What Compensation May Be Available for a Florida Pressure Cooker Burn?

The damages potentially recoverable depend on the facts, applicable law, severity of the burns, medical treatment, liability evidence, and other circumstances.

A pressure cooker injury claim may potentially include compensation for:

  • Emergency medical care
  • Hospitalization
  • Burn center treatment
  • Skin graft procedures
  • Plastic or reconstructive surgery
  • Scar treatment
  • Future medical care
  • Lost wages
  • Loss of future earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Scarring and disfigurement
  • Disability
  • Loss of enjoyment of life
  • Other recoverable damages

There is no fixed value for a pressure cooker case. The value of a burn that heals without significant residual injury may differ substantially from an injury involving third-degree burns, hospitalization, skin grafts, permanent scarring, or disfigurement.

How Long Do I Have to File a Pressure Cooker Lawsuit in Florida?

Florida has specific statutes of limitations applicable to product liability claims. Under Florida Statute s. 95.11, a burn victim typically has 2 years to file a lawsuit for personal injury. Florida law also contains a statute of repose that may affect claims involving older products.

The applicable deadline can depend on the date of injury, when the relevant facts were or should have been discovered, the age and expected useful life of the product, and other circumstances.

Because product liability limitations issues can be more complicated than simply counting from the date of an accident, an injured consumer should consider having the particular deadline evaluated rather than assuming a generic personal injury limitations period applies.

Waiting can also create practical problems. The pressure cooker may be discarded, online records may disappear, witnesses may become difficult to locate, and other evidence can be lost.

What If the Manufacturer Says I Used the Pressure Cooker Wrong?

Manufacturers and other defendants may argue that an accident resulted from misuse, failure to follow instructions, overfilling, improper cleaning, forcing the lid, or another action by the consumer.

That allegation does not necessarily resolve the case.

An investigation may consider how the product was actually used, what the instructions said, whether the alleged use was foreseeable, how the safety mechanisms were designed to function, whether the lid could be opened with normal force, and what physical evidence remains.

Florida’s comparative fault law may also become relevant depending on the claims and defenses.

Can I Have a Case If My Pressure Cooker Was Purchased on Amazon?

Potentially. Purchasing a pressure cooker online does not by itself prevent a product liability claim.

An investigation may consider the manufacturer, seller, distributor, importer, identity of the Amazon seller, and other companies involved in the transaction or distribution of the product.

Preserve your Amazon order history, confirmation emails, product listing information, seller information, and any communications concerning the purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions About Florida Pressure Cooker Lawsuits

Which pressure cookers have been recalled for burn hazards?

Recent CPSC recalls have included certain Ninja Foodi, Insignia, Bella, Bella Pro Series, Crux, Cooks, Crock-Pot Express, and Ambiano pressure cookers, among others. A recall usually applies to particular models rather than every product sold under a brand name.

Has Ninja Foodi been recalled?

Yes. In May 2025, approximately 1.8 million Ninja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers were recalled because the pressure-cooking lid could be opened during use, potentially allowing hot contents to escape. The CPSC reported 106 burn injuries and 26 lawsuits at the time of its announcement.

Have there been Ninja Foodi pressure cooker lawsuits in Florida?

Yes. At least one publicly reported federal lawsuit filed in Florida involved allegations that a Ninja Foodi pressure cooker lid unexpectedly separated and expelled hot contents, causing severe burn injuries. Allegations in a complaint are not findings of liability.

Has the Crock-Pot Express pressure cooker been recalled?

Yes. Certain Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers were recalled in 2020. The CPSC reported 119 incidents involving lid detachment and 99 burn injuries.

Have Bella pressure cookers been recalled?

Yes. A 2023 recall involved certain Bella, Bella Pro Series, Crux, Cooks, and Bella stovetop pressure cookers because the lid could potentially unlock and be removed during use.

Have Insignia pressure cookers been recalled?

Yes. Approximately 930,000 Insignia pressure cookers were recalled because incorrect inner-pot markings could contribute to overfilling and the ejection of hot contents under certain circumstances.

Does my pressure cooker have to be recalled for me to file a lawsuit?

No. A recall is not necessarily required for a product liability claim. Whether a claim may exist depends on the particular product, alleged defect, accident, injury, and applicable law.

Can Amazon reviews be used in a pressure cooker lawsuit?

Potentially, depending on the circumstances and evidentiary rules. Reviews describing substantially similar incidents may be investigated along with complaints, warranty claims, CPSC reports, prior lawsuits, and manufacturer records. An online review by itself does not prove that a product is defective.

Should I throw away my pressure cooker after an explosion?

No. If the appliance was involved in an injury, preserve it if you can do so safely. The cooker, lid, gasket, valves, sensors, and other components may become important evidence.

Should I let the manufacturer take my pressure cooker?

Consider obtaining legal advice before relinquishing possession of a cooker involved in a serious injury. Once the product leaves your possession, preserving and independently examining it may become more complicated.

Can I sue if the pressure cooker lid opened while there was still pressure inside?

Potentially. Whether there is a viable product liability claim depends on why the lid opened, the design and condition of the cooker, how it was being used, the resulting injuries, and other evidence.

How much is a Florida pressure cooker lawsuit worth?

There is no standard value. Relevant factors may include the degree and location of burns, hospitalization, skin grafting, permanent scars, disfigurement, lost income, future treatment, pain and suffering, and strength of the liability evidence.

How much does a Florida pressure cooker lawyer cost?

We handle pressure cooker injury cases on a contingency fee basis. There are no fees or costs owed to our firm unless there is a recovery. The specific fee arrangement is explained in the written representation agreement.
