What is the Power Pressure Cooker XL?

The Power Pressure Cooker XL is sold throughout the United States, including in Kohls, JC Penney, Sears, Costco, Walmart, and through the internet. It is sold through infomercials and is one of the most widely used pressure cookers on the market. Unfortunately, there have been many reported injuries. Our pressure cookers have handled more pressure cooker injury claims than most firms in the country.

According to Tristar, the Power Pressure Cooker XL is designed to create delicious & healthy meals in 30 minutes or less. They say to simply set the timer in the morning and have a tender & flavor-rich meal ready when you come home. Tristar claims that the Power Pressure Cooker XL has “Built-in Safety Features” and is “Fully Automated”.

Unfortunately, however, there have been multiple reports that the safety lock does not work properly. Victims reported that the pressure stopped coming out and then the cooker lock still opened and caused boiling hot liquid to spray all over the consumer. The pressure cooker was still pressurized even though the steam stopped coming out. Several lawsuits have been filed against Tristar Products and the manufacturers for product liability to recover money damages against them for injuries caused by allegedly defective pressure cookers.

Government Complaint Filed for Power Pressure Cooker XL Burn Injury

Over the past couple of years, our clients have filed several complaints with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission reporting the issues they had with the Power Pressure Cooker XL. There have been several reports filed against them alleging similar injuries and complaints.

Our pressure cooker attorneys have handled several claims on behalf of victims burned and severely injured by the Power Pressure Cooker XL.

The Power Pressure Cooker XL is one of the most widely used pressure cookers on the market. We’ve been investigating this product for several years now and represent numerous victims injured as a result of the Power Pressure Cooker XL.

Types of Injuries From the Power Pressure Cooker XL

  • Burn injuries – The most common type of injuries we see as a result of the Power Pressure Cooker XL are severe burn injuries. The Power Pressure Cooker XL reportedly heats up liquid to a boiling temperature and when this pressure cooker explodes, it could severely injure the user.
  • Scars – Many victims injured by an exploding Power Pressure Cooker XL have reported scars and discoloration of the skin months or even years after the burn injury.

What is Causing the Power Pressure Cooker XL to Explode?

There are many unanswered questions at this point as to why Tristar’s Power Pressure Cooker XL has exploded time and time again. Through investigation, we found that Tristar may have used several different Chinese manufacturers to produce their product. Tristar appears to have acted as a distributor of these products. One Chinese manufacturer advised that Tristar may have used the same model plate on the exterior of the pressure cooker manufactured by different Chinese companies, making it difficult for even the Chinese manufacture to tell whether it was their product or one manufactured by different Chinese company.

One Chinese manufacture even requested that one of our victims unscrew the bottom of the pressure cooker so they can look at the wiring inside to determine whether it was their wiring or not.

Tristar has not disclosed what is actually causing the pressure cookers to explode. So far, we’ve determined that Tristar may have used several different manufacturers over the past few years to manufacture the Power Pressure Cooker XL. There may be several possible design defects, as well as potential manufacturing defects.

What Complaints are Victims Making Against the Power Pressure Cooker Xl?

  • Lid not locking – Several victims have complained that the pressure cooker appears to finish cooking, with no steam coming out any longer. When the user goes to unlock the lid of the pressure cooker, it still turns and causes pressurized contents to explode from the pressure cooker. The pressure cooker, however, is allegedly supposed to have a safety mechanism in place to prevent the lid from opening if the contents are still pressurized.
  • Contents explode during cooking – Several users have complained that the pressure cooker has exploded during actual use, without the user actually touching the pressure cooker. This may happen if the lid is not secured and sealed, for which the power pressure cooker should not turn on in the first place unless completely sealed.
