Florida Depo-Provera Lawsuit Lawyers – MDL Centralized in Florida

Depo-Provera, an injectable contraceptive containing depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA), has been used by millions of women across Florida and the United States since its FDA approval in 1992. For many, it offered a convenient alternative to daily birth control pills.

But lawsuits now pending in federal court allege that studies suggest long-term use of Depo-Provera may be linked to the development of meningiomas, a type of brain tumor. These claims have been consolidated in MDL No. 3140 in the Northern District of Florida, making Florida the national hub for this litigation.

If you were diagnosed with a meningioma after using Depo-Provera, you may be eligible to join this litigation.

What is Depo-Provera?

Depo-Provera is a prescription contraceptive injection given every three months. It works by stopping ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm, and thinning the uterine lining.

A related product, Depo-SubQ Provera 104, delivers a smaller dose beneath the skin rather than into the muscle. Some lawsuits allege that this version may carry less risk, but both are now part of the ongoing litigation.

In addition to Pfizer’s brand-name products, generic equivalents have been distributed by several pharmaceutical companies.

What is a Meningioma?

A meningioma is a tumor that forms on the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. While most meningiomas are benign (non-cancerous), they can still cause serious and life-changing problems.

Symptoms may include:

  • Frequent or severe headaches.
  • Seizures.
  • Vision or hearing problems.
  • Cognitive or memory difficulties.
  • Weakness or numbness in the limbs.

Diagnosis often requires an MRI or CT scan. Treatment may involve monitoring, surgery, or radiation therapy.

The Florida MDL – Central Hub for Depo-Provera Cases

In February 2025, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) centralized Depo-Provera lawsuits into MDL No. 3140 in the Northern District of Florida, before Judge M. Casey Rodgers.

Why Florida?

  • Two related cases were already pending here.
  • The court has the resources to handle nationwide litigation.
  • Judge Rodgers has significant experience managing complex product liability MDLs.

This means that all federal Depo-Provera cases nationwide are now coordinated here in Florida, including those filed by women across the U.S.

Case Criteria – Who May Qualify?

Our firm is currently investigating Depo-Provera cases in Florida based on the following criteria:

  • You received at least two injections of:
    • Pfizer’s Depo-Provera or Depo-SubQ Provera, OR
    • An authorized generic version distributed by companies such as Pharmacia & Upjohn, Greenstone, A-S Medication Solutions, Prasco, or Preferred Pharmaceuticals.
  • You were later diagnosed with a meningioma after using one of these medications.
  • In some cases, we may also review claims involving other benign brain tumors, depending on the facts.

If you meet these requirements, you may be eligible to file a claim in the Florida MDL.

Pretrial Order No. 17 – Proof of Use and Injury

Judge Rodgers has entered strict requirements for participation in the MDL. Each plaintiff must generally provide:

  1. Proof of product use – such as pharmacy records, insurance records, or medical charts confirming Depo-Provera injections.
  2. Proof of injury – medical records or imaging reports confirming a meningioma diagnosis.

This information is submitted through the MDL Centrality system, and must be filed within 120 days of joining the MDL.

Even if you don’t yet have all your records, our firm can help request them and make sure your claim stays on track.

What Compensation Could Be Available?

If you join the litigation, you may be able to pursue damages for:

  • Past and future medical bills, including surgery and treatment.
  • Lost income and reduced earning capacity.
  • Pain and suffering.
  • Emotional trauma, including anxiety and depression.
  • Wrongful death damages if a loved one passed away.

Florida’s Unique Role in the Litigation

Because the Depo-Provera MDL is based in Florida, Floridians have a unique advantage:
