JKMAX Heated Blankets and Heating Pad Burn Lawsuits

People who were burned, injured by smoke, or suffered property damage from a recalled JKMAX heated blanket or heating pad may be able to file a JKMAX heated blanket lawsuit. A product liability claim may seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, scarring, pain and suffering and property losses, depending on the facts and the law that applies.

If you were burned by a JKMAX heated blanket or heating pad, call the Law Offices of Jason Turchin at 800-337-7755 for a free consultation.

Burn and fire injuries from recalled heated blankets may support a product liability claim.

Approximately 195,000 JKMAX heated blankets and heating pads have been recalled after hundreds of reports that the products smoked, melted, or burned because their internal heating elements overheated. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on September 17, 2026.

The recalled products were sold through Amazon from September 2022 through July 2026. You can read more about the recall in our post on the JKMAX heated blanket and heating pad recall.

The Law Offices of Jason Turchin represents individuals nationwide in product liability cases involving defective heating pads, defective electric blankets, heated clothing, electrical products, and other consumer products associated with serious burns and fires.

Which JKMAX Heated Blankets and Heating Pads Were Recalled?

JKMAX heated blanket lawsuit

The CPSC recall covers all heating pads and heated blankets sold by JKMAX. Listed models include:

  • JKMAX-002
  • JKMAX-7284B
  • JKMAX-6284B
  • JKMAX-10090B
  • JKMAX-8490B

The products were sold in multiple sizes and colors, including blue, gray, brown, and red. Both the blankets and heating pads are made from polyester fabric and have detachable white remote controls that adjust the heat.

The model number is on the back of the remote. It is also printed on a white label attached to the product packaging along with the JKMAX brand name.

Why Were JKMAX Heated Blankets and Heating Pads Recalled?

According to the CPSC, the products’ internal wire heating elements can overheat, creating both fire and burn hazards. Electric blankets and heating pads are meant to produce controlled heat without an unreasonable risk of burns or fire.

When a heating element overheats, parts of the blanket or pad may become dangerously hot. The product may smoke, melt, scorch, damage nearby materials, cause contact burns or ignite a fire.

How Many JKMAX Burn Injuries Have Been Reported?

The CPSC reports that JKMAX received 577 reports of blankets or heating pads smoking, melting, or burning because the heating elements overheated, including 53 burn injuries. The federal recall notice does not describe how severe each injury was.

Can a Heating Pad Burn You?

Yes, a heating pad can burn you, especially if it overheats while pressed against the skin. Heating pads are often placed directly on the back, neck, shoulders, abdomen, hips, knees or legs.

Unlike touching a hot surface and pulling away, a person using a heating pad may stay exposed to excessive heat for a long time. Someone who falls asleep may not notice the pad becoming dangerously hot, and the result can include deep burns, blistering, scarring or nerve damage.

Can a Heating Pad or Heated Blanket Catch on Fire?

A defective heating pad or heated blanket can catch on fire, and the CPSC lists fire as one of the hazards in the JKMAX recall. Heated blankets are often used on sheets, mattresses, comforters, pillows and upholstered furniture that can be exposed to excessive heat.

Fires are a serious product safety concern. In 2023, fires contributed to 5 percent or approximately 3,150 of the annual consumer product-related deaths, according to the CPSC.

Who May Be Able to File a JKMAX Heated Blanket Lawsuit?

Consumers seriously injured by a recalled JKMAX product may be able to pursue a product liability lawsuit. A case may examine whether a defect in the heating elements, wiring, temperature controls, sensors or other electrical parts caused the product to overheat.

An investigation may also look at how the product was designed, manufactured and tested, what warnings were given, and when the companies learned of reported problems. Whether a claim exists depends on the facts, the evidence and the applicable law. Our post on JKMAX recall burn injury claims covers more background.

What Evidence Matters in a JKMAX Heating Pad Burn Claim?

The heating pad or blanket itself is often the most important evidence. An investigation may compare where the burn is with where the product overheated.

  • Fabric damage: melting, discoloration, scorch marks or burn marks
  • Electrical damage: damaged heating wires or melted components
  • Controller and cord: damage to the remote, power cord or plug

What Can Cause a Heated Blanket or Heating Pad to Overheat?

Overheating may come from several kinds of defects or failures. The JKMAX recall specifically identifies overheating of the internal wire heating elements.

  • Defective heating elements: wires that produce or concentrate too much heat
  • Temperature control failure: controls that let the product keep heating
  • Sensor problems: parts that fail to detect excessive heat
  • Electrical shorts: damaged wiring that causes heat, arcing or fire
  • Manufacturing defects: assembly problems affecting wiring, insulation or connections

Depending on the evidence, several product liability theories may apply after a JKMAX burn injury.

  • Design defect: the heating system allowed dangerous overheating
  • Manufacturing defect: a unit differed from its intended design
  • Failure to warn: warnings did not explain overheating, burn or fire risks
  • Negligence: careless design, testing, importation, distribution or sale

Does the JKMAX Recall Prove the Product Was Defective?

No, a recall can be important evidence of a safety problem, but it does not automatically establish liability in an individual case. An injured person may still need to show that a recalled product overheated and that the overheating caused the burn or fire.

A person hurt by a heated product may also have a claim even if that model was never recalled.

What Injuries Are Common in Heated Blanket and Heating Pad Cases?

Overheated blankets and pads can cause injuries ranging from blistering burns to fire-related harm.

  • Second-degree burns: pain, blistering, swelling and possible scarring
  • Third-degree burns: damage through the skin that may need surgery or grafts
  • Scarring and disfigurement: permanent scars or skin discoloration
  • Nerve damage: chronic pain, numbness or reduced function
  • Smoke inhalation: respiratory injuries if a fire starts
  • Emotional distress: lasting effects of serious burns or a house fire

How Are Serious Burn Injuries Treated?

Burn treatment depends on the depth, location and size of the injury. Serious burns may require emergency care, hospitalization, burn center treatment, wound debridement, skin grafting, surgery, therapy and scar management.

Some burn victims need months or years of care, and permanent scars may require ongoing reconstructive treatment.

Can I Recover Property Damage From a JKMAX Heated Blanket Fire?

Property losses may form part of a product liability claim, depending on the circumstances. A fire can damage bedding, mattresses, furniture, flooring, personal belongings or entire rooms, along with smoke and water damage from firefighting.

What Compensation May Be Available in a JKMAX Burn Lawsuit?

Compensation depends on the severity of the injuries, the evidence and the applicable law. Possible damages may include:

  • Medical costs: emergency care, surgery, skin grafts and future treatment
  • Income losses: lost wages and loss of earning capacity
  • Personal losses: pain and suffering, scarring, disfigurement and disability
  • Property losses: damaged belongings and home repairs

What Should I Do If a JKMAX Heated Blanket Burned Me?

Get medical care first, then protect the evidence. These steps may help:

  1. Get appropriate medical treatment and keep your records and bills.
  2. Unplug the product and keep it with the remote, cord, plug, labels and packaging.
  3. Photograph your burns and any melting, scorching or discoloration on the product.
  4. Save your Amazon order records.
  5. Do not plug a damaged product back in to see whether it overheats again.

Should I Throw Away or Return a JKMAX Product After an Injury?

No, if you were seriously hurt, consider speaking with an attorney before returning or destroying the product as part of the recall. An engineering professional may need to inspect it to find out whether the heating element, wiring or controller failed.

If the product is discarded, repaired or altered, valuable evidence may be lost. Keep it unplugged and stored where nobody will use it.

Why Should I Save My Amazon Order History?

Amazon purchase records may help show when you bought the product, which model it was, who sold it and what you paid. Consider saving screenshots of your order history and the product listing, since online listings can change or disappear.

Can Amazon Be Liable for a JKMAX Heated Blanket Injury?

Amazon may be liable in some cases, depending on the facts and applicable state law. Buying a JKMAX product on Amazon does not automatically make Amazon legally responsible for an injury.

Relevant factors may include who manufactured, imported, sold, stored and shipped the product, and how involved the marketplace was in the sale. Learn more about Amazon heating pad burn claims and our heating pad burn injury FAQ.

Who Imported the Recalled JKMAX Products?

According to the CPSC recall notice, the products were imported by Jiande Pengshuai Trading Co., Ltd., of China. The CPSC identifies the action as Recall Number 26-778, covering approximately 195,000 products.

Identifying manufacturers, importers, distributors and sellers can be an important part of a product liability investigation.

What If I Have a Recalled JKMAX Product but Was Not Injured?

Stop using it immediately, even if it has never overheated. JKMAX is offering a full refund, and consumers can contact JKMAX for recall instructions.
