What Gourmia Products Have Been Linked to Burn Hazards?
Federal safety notices have flagged burn hazards involving at least two Gourmia product lines, and a consumer report describes a separate overheating problem with a Gourmia air fryer. Each one points to a different way a kitchen appliance can hurt someone.
- 9-Slice Digital Air Fryer Ovens. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Gourmia recalls 9-Slice Digital Air Fryer Ovens due to burn hazard.
- Gourmia pressure cookers. The CPSC warned consumers to immediately stop using Gourmia pressure cookers due to a serious burn hazard, noting multiple burn injuries reported and that the majority were sold at Best Buy.
- Gourmia GAF698 air fryer. A report on SaferProducts.gov describes a Gourmia GAF698 air fryer sold by Costco whose power plug overheated, melting the power outlet and creating a fire hazard.
Overheating and fire are not minor concerns. According to the CPSC, in 2023, fires contributed to 5 percent or approximately 3,150 of the annual consumer product-related deaths.

Recall, CPSC Warning or Consumer Report: What Is the Difference?
A recall, a CPSC warning and a consumer report are three different kinds of documents, and each may carry different weight in a claim. None of them, on its own, decides whether you have a case.
| Type | What it generally means | How it may matter in a claim |
|---|---|---|
| Recall | A product is pulled from use or sale, often with a remedy offered. | Can suggest a known hazard, though a defect and causation still need to be shown. |
| CPSC warning | The agency alerts the public to stop using a product. | May support that a hazard existed and was serious. |
| SaferProducts.gov report | A report submitted by a member of the public. | May show a pattern of similar problems, but reports are not necessarily verified. |

Can You Sue Gourmia for a Burn Injury?
You may be able to bring a product liability claim if a defect in a Gourmia appliance caused your burns. Florida law generally allows injured people to pursue the companies that made or sold an unreasonably dangerous product.
Most product claims fall into one or more of these categories, explained further in our post on the three main product liability claims:
- Design defect. The product was unsafe as designed, such as a lid that can open while contents are under pressure.
- Manufacturing defect. A specific unit was built incorrectly, such as faulty wiring in a plug or heating element.
- Failure to warn. Instructions or warnings did not adequately explain a hidden risk.
What Do Gourmia Burn Injury Cases Look Like?
Every case turns on its own facts. The scenarios below are hypothetical examples meant to show the kinds of situations a claim may involve, not real clients or outcomes.
- Pressure cooker steam burn. A parent opens a Gourmia pressure cooker after the cycle ends, and hot contents spray onto their arms and chest. A claim may examine the lid design, the locking mechanism and the warnings.
- Air fryer oven contact burn. A homeowner suffers burns while using a recalled 9-Slice Digital Air Fryer Oven. The recall notice and the product itself may become central evidence.
- Overheating plug and outlet. An air fryer plug overheats and melts a wall outlet, similar to the GAF698 report, causing a burn or a kitchen fire. Medical costs and property repairs may both be part of the claim.
What Should You Do After a Gourmia Appliance Burns You?
Get medical care first, then preserve the evidence. The steps you take early can affect how well your claim can be supported later.
- Seek medical treatment, even for burns that seem minor, since some burns worsen or scar over time.
- Stop using the appliance and unplug it if it is safe to do so.
- Keep the product, do not repair it and do not throw it away.
- Photograph your injuries, the appliance, the outlet and the scene.
- Avoid giving recorded statements to the company before speaking with a lawyer.
- Contact a Gourmia burn injury lawyer to review your options.
Helpful items to gather include:
- Proof of purchase. Receipts, order emails or store account records.
- Product details. Model number, serial number, packaging and manual.
- Medical records. Bills, treatment notes and photos of healing.
- Loss records. Missed work, repair estimates and replaced property.
Does It Matter Where You Bought Your Gourmia Product?
It can. Retailers and distributors in the chain of sale may share responsibility in some product cases, and where you bought the item can also help confirm which model and batch you owned.
Gourmia products have been sold through stores such as Best Buy and Costco, as well as online. If you bought yours online, our post on Amazon A-to-z Guarantee personal injury claims explains how that process may interact with an injury claim.
How Long Do You Have to File a Gourmia Injury Claim in Florida?
Florida deadlines can be short, and many negligence claims may need to be filed within two years. The exact deadline depends on the type of claim and when the injury occurred.
Filing deadlines are set out in Florida Statute §95.11. Florida also uses a comparative fault system under Florida Statute §768.81, which can reduce recovery if the injured person is found partly at fault and may bar recovery if that person is found more than 50 percent at fault. Speaking with a lawyer early can help protect your rights.

Gourmia Burn Injury FAQs
Can I still file a claim if my Gourmia appliance was never recalled?
Possibly. A recall is not required for a product liability claim. What generally matters is whether a defect caused your injury.
What if I threw away the receipt?
You may still have options. Bank statements, store loyalty records or online order history can sometimes show proof of purchase.
Can I recover for a melted outlet or kitchen fire damage?
Property damage caused by a defective product may be part of a claim, along with medical costs and other losses.
Should I send my appliance back to Gourmia?
It is usually wise to speak with a lawyer before returning the product, since the appliance itself may be important evidence.
What if my child was the one burned?
A parent or guardian may be able to bring a claim on behalf of a minor child, and the child’s medical care should come first.
