Gourmia Pressure Cooker Lawsuits
On February 24, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a severe and urgent warning to the public: immediately stop using Gourmia Pressure Cookers due to a risk of serious injury and severe burn hazards. Our pressure cooker lawyers have already filed product liability lawsuits against Gourmia for pressure cooker burns.
In a shocking turn of events, the product’s importer, The Steelstone Group, LLC (doing business as Gourmia), and the primary retailer, Best Buy Co., Inc., have refused to agree to an acceptable recall to address this severe hazard. This leaves thousands of consumers at risk.
If you or a loved one suffered severe burns from an exploding Gourmia pressure cooker, the Law Offices of Jason Turchin may be able to help. Our national product liability attorneys can actively investigate these incidents. Call us today at (800) 337-7755 for a free, no-obligation consultation.
The CPSC Warning: Why Are Gourmia Pressure Cookers Dangerous?
According to the official CPSC safety warning (Warning Number: 26-280), the primary hazard involves the lid of the pressure cooker opening while it is still fully pressurized. This catastrophic failure can cause boiling hot contents to aggressively spray out, which has resulted in severe second-degree burn injuries to consumers.
The CPSC investigation identified two specific, highly dangerous design flaws contributing to these explosions:
- The Hidden Float Valve: The float valve is designed to raise when the unit is pressurized and drop when it is safe. However, on the Gourmia model, this valve is located inside the handle and is incredibly difficult to see. Because of this alleged defect, consumers may not see that the valve is raised and may reasonably think it is safe to twist open the lid while the unit remains under dangerous pressure.
- Incorrect Volume Markings: The inner pot features incorrect volume markings. This critical error can easily cause consumers to accidentally overfill the pot. When overfilled, hot food and scalding liquids can be violently ejected when the cooker is vented using the quick-release method or if it is opened while pressurized.

Which Gourmia Pressure Cookers Are Affected?
The CPSC warning specifically targets the following product details:
- Model Number: GPC625.
- Description: Digital pressure cookers with a six-quart cooking chamber capacity, featuring stainless steel and black plastic finishes, a digital temperature/function display, and button controls.
- Units Sold: Approximately 43,500 units.
- Where They Were Sold: The vast majority were sold at Best Buy, alongside other retailers and e-commerce platforms, between 2017 and 2020.
- Manufacturing Origin: Manufactured in China.
Reported Injuries and Existing Lawsuits
These hazards are not hypothetical. As of the February 2026 warning, the CPSC has received five official reports of incidents where hot contents were violently expelled under pressure. In four of those cases, victims reported suffering severe burn injuries. Furthermore, there have been at least two lawsuits already filed by consumers alleging burn injuries caused by this specific Gourmia product.
Gourmia Pressure Cooker Injury FAQs
If you have not been injured, the CPSC strongly urges you to stop using the pressure cooker immediately and safely dispose of it. Because the companies have refused an acceptable recall, the CPSC explicitly warns consumers not to sell or give away these hazardous appliances. However, if the unit has already exploded and caused an injury, do not throw it away. Keep the defective unit in a safe place, as it can be the most critical piece of evidence for your potential product liability claim.
You may be able to pursue a claim against the retailer. Under strict product liability laws, any entity in the “chain of distribution” can potentially be held liable for placing an unreasonably dangerous product into the hands of a consumer. Because Best Buy Co., Inc. was the primary retailer for the majority of these 43,500 units, they may share legal liability alongside the importer, The Steelstone Group, LLC.
